Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

What a year

Posted in: PATA
Now that we are nearing the end of 2006 we should all realize that the city and our leaders have somehow moved in a direction none of us would have imagined 12 months ago.

In early 2005 we learned that the Mayor was suicidal at times and delusional at other times. Has his bouts with depression affected his ability to make sound decisions? Early in the year the Pickerington police came to the Mayor?’s home responding to a 911 call. The Mayor was verbally abusive and would not allow the police to enter his home. After a standoff at the Mayor?’s home the police chief who has a sworn duty to investigate these calls allowed his officers to stand down. Fortunately there was no one harmed in the Mayor?’s home and the Mayor was allowed to continue with what ever was going on inside his home. I would guess that if anyone of the rest of us would have talked to the police the way the Mayor did we would have found ourselves in jail for the night. Since he now appears to view himself as above the law here in Pickerington and the Mayor?’s attitude has been transferred on to the majority of Council I am afraid we will face a crisis soon here in the city, when our leaders have no respect for the law and our police.

The Mayor?’s chief lieutenant, Jeff fix, has moved quickly to established his superiority over everyone else and by his own comments feels everyone else on council is beneath him and his selected few that chose to follow. He claims to run a $75 Million and because of that we should all kiss his feet for saving us. Has the Mayor and his group now created a ruling class that is above the law and know more than anyone else here in the city? Those of us that go to work every day to support our families no longer have a say in how things are run here in Pickerington. The Mayor has complete control over the Pickerington City Council majority and that means he is making the decisions for the citizens of Pickerington and those not worthy no longer have any representation in City matters. I would imagine most in the City do not have the pseudo resume of Mr. Fix. Apparently the majority living in our city will face the task again this year to take to the streets and revolt like we did in 2001 and 2002.

Who in the hell gave the Mayor and Jeff Fix the authority to give away our City Taxpayer?’s money to the township? Why are these three knuckleheads (Hammond, Riggs, and Smith) on Council going along with the Mayor on this agreement with the township? If we look at the map we see nothing in the way of vacant land still available along US 33 (Yosemite Pam please look at the map before commenting). This agreement will not help the schools or the city. It will enrich the Township with City Taxpayer dollars and only a minority on council have taken the time to do the numbers and apparently those in the public that have taken the time are also reaching the same conclusion as the minority.

I am not sure if there is a pill for ?“Delusions of Grandeur?” but someone needs to get Fix to the clinic to be evaluated.

Liars in office

I wanted to address some issues that Jeff Fix the Almighty brings up on his December 5th statement to council where he places himself on a pedestal that looks down on us all.

He claims in his message that ALL residential loses money. That fact is in not really a fact at all. Condos (6 units per acre) do show one of the most return for each dollar of services provided. He also says that retail loses money for the community. Actually the only loser in the City study for commercial was big box retail over 50,000 square feet.

I believe if the City in future were to mix the development the best they can in put high end condos and single family developments together then that kind of development would bring the residential closer to a revenue neutral project. I would think controlling what is brought into the city in the way of commercial development would have a huge positive impact on the city and its future taxes revenues. I believe I have read where there are around 300 acres that are vacant within the city currently.

So how did the city or how is the city encouraging these property owners to convert their current zoning over to some kind of commercial or mixed use residential? The fact is that the two lots per acre zoning passed overwhelming in 2002. Since then there have been NO single family plats approved in the City at he same time the plating has continued in the township. The city has imposed design guidelines to increase the average value of those home being built here in the city. I do not believe another similar has been imposed in the township. The city has imposed impact fees to help pay a portion of the costs of growth that Mr. Fix seems to frit about all the time.

So some one tell me again why is good for this community to allow residential building in the township and not in the city? If you read the PATA newsletters these two former township former township residents (Harding and Fix) continued to hammer away at the city with false or partial information trying to make the case the city and her residents were incompetent and we still see that in Mr. Fix who talks down to us all. When Mr. Fix says retail and residential developments lose money for the taxpayers and ignores the rest of the city?’s 2005 study then his only source of information is the PATA newsletters prior to 2003. They clearly took that position time and again only to be found false by actual city studies by professional.

Mr. Fix is devoid of original thought and he relied on Bob Harding to lead him to the stream of political victory. It is sad that we allowed a township residents like Bob Harding to make notes for Councilman Shaver in 2002 to bring up issues at council that were negative for the city and positive for the township to pave Mr. Shaver?’s path to the Mayor office.

What Mr. Fix is banking on is that none of us will challenge him and his so called facts. Well Mr. Fix you are a lair and it shows all over your own words of December 5th.

When are you building your wall?

Seems to me that you have missed an opportunity...you can go to P and Z and propose a wall between the city and township, on that wall you can place statues of the evil ones you quote in your musings, then you can shoot marshmallow guns at the statues whenever you drive by...

Sure the agreement sucks...a better one could be crafted...sure the leader of the agreement push is flawed, use your energy to run for office, walk a referendum petition etc. You are balling up names here like a former city administrator or elected official no longer in office, the name calling is the hallmark to your identity.

You can agree to disagree, respectfully, and get to work in the trenches to make a change. If you run and we know your past, you will be voted out again in my view. Your ideas have merit but they are splashed in spew not welcome by intelligent, caring people.
When you going pay your share?

I am glad you disapprove.

I did get out and help Shaver in 2003 to get elected only to find that he was not interested in Pickerington but his own political life and his real dream was to a be a Judge. In two short years he is trying to leave the Mayor's office to run for his real dream of being a Judge. Somehow he was turned down by all of those he had yearned to please in 2003. People like me he doesn't know any more. I have called him a couple of times over the last year or so and he never returned one phone call. Just too busy or too important I guess.

One of his strongest supporters was Councilman O'Brien. Yet when Mitch lost by 10 votes to Sabatino the Mayor abandon him. Here we had a person willing to serve like you suggest that the Mayor sticks it too him in public and compared him to Maxey. He now favors Jeff Fix who might be able to help him in a future elections. He has his nose up councilman Fix's butt so far that he can't see where he is going.

As for the township I do not think any one wants to build a wall. What most in the city want is fair share in any agreement between the town. Not some one sided document hat requires city taxpayers dollars in exchange for NOTHING. I am sure you can feel philosophical when your tax coffers are about to be filled with city investments and staff time.

You should also understand the farce it is to say that we are one happy family or one community or one township. If you can then you should realize that the trustees only represent their 60% of the township. They only levies taxes on the other 40%. We clearly see that in their demands in this agreement and we see it in how they are able to manipulate weaklings like Jeff Fix and David Shaver. Both one someday to be a candidate for office with a larger constituency. Both will have problems with that because they both do not the small constituency they are support to serve now.
