Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

I wanted to remind everyone of some of the history of Pickerington, Violet Township, and Canal Winchester. I believe in 2000 the then Mayor of Pickerington was Randy Hughes. He made some manly challenges to Violet Township to something like get on the train or get off the tracks. I will need some research on that one. The point though is that my friends over in Canal were very concerned that Violet township was going to merge with Pickerington and basically lose the remaining parts of their industrial park at Canal Pointe. Almost immediately Violet and Canal had the secret CEDA agreement in January of 2001 and that secured some of the CEDA area and most of the commercial parts of Canal Pointe. If Pickerington and Violet were to merge tomorrow or at least file the paper work and the voters voted in favor those remaining parts of the CEDA area not yet annexed into Canal would become part of the NEW MERGED city. Remember how Terry Dunlap and the other trustees all made the campaign and survey to show the Violet Township citizens were not in favor of a merger or was it to please their business partners in Canal. To re-assure them that there will NEVER be a merger? That was under another Mayor and different council in Canal. Things have changed and I suspect this regional partnership crap is going out the window.


If Canal out flanks Pickerington and Violet Township by annexing all the way out Busey road to Allen and they somehow can get to the Liberty township line then they have effectively cut any new merged city in half. Even if Violet Township were to try the merger then you can NOT have satellite parts of any city. Canal by annexing all the way out Busey to Liberty Township could kill any thoughts of a merger.


Would Canal do this to protect their investments into the CEDA and Canal Pointe?
