Keeping up on school news

Posted in: PATA
As new topics are posted and older ones get pushed down the board, you can count on me to keep the reprehensible behavior of the board of education on the front page. There are things going on behind the scenes that simply cannot be left to their own devices.

Namely:

It now appears that meetings have been taking place that resulted in the determination that what the voters were sold and approved was simply cast aside. What I find distasteful is that is appears that what we were voting on was changed before we voted. So therefore, we were mislead and lied to. Reade, you want to be the almighty president? Well then I lay the blame squarely on you. You and Olshefski, your board member in waiting carried out a campaign of misdirection and misinformation. Congratulations! You lied and you won. There is a lesson we can all teach our kids as I am sure you are teaching yours. The end always justifies the means, kids.

We voted for three schools that are exactly the same as ones we have. That is what you told us, that is what we accepted and that is what we expect. Do not create a smoke screen to mask your intentions to create another disparate township school complex. Come out and tell us. Tell us we were stupid and believed everything you said. Laugh at us and rub our noses in it. What can we do about it? Take back the bond issue? I don?’t think so. You have our money and there is not a thing we can do about it. You told us the truth 4 times before this and the issues failed. You lied and then you won.

We voted to see a Tussing and a Harmon built in the township and a Tussing built in the city. Well, we city folk will get what we deserve and you township elitists will get what you want. After all, wouldn?’t it be imprudent to have built North and then debase it with a pathetic reproduction of a city school down the road a couple of miles?

Now we have this new deception where you offer the parents of over 10,000 children 45 minutes a pop to tell you what we desire in a new superintendent. I can only hope that the sessions are besieged by parents who want, and yes deserve the opportunity to speak and that they refuse to leave after 45 minutes. I hope they keep you there until the next morning. I dare you to close the meetings before everyone has the chance to speak.

I have read in this forum where the press reads this site occasionally. Well, press, I hope that you noticed as carefully as the person that sent the press release to the webmaster how you were deceived. You were cheated out of the chance to write a story and perhaps even interview a few parents before the sessions but no, you were effectively stalled for over two weeks so when you print the press release, it will already be old news. Remember that when you all rush to Reade?’s side after the meetings to hang on her every word and get her insightful quotes.

Enough of that. I looked back at postings I made last year. First, I miss Central Mom and wish she would come back to talk about schools. Second I read that my salary increase for last year was $150 annually. This year was nearly double that but the schools will take it away for their new palaces. I threatened or cautioned or advised or whatever, that if it?’s too hot in the kitchen, get out. It?’s time I took my own advice. A realtor put her sign in my yard yesterday. Now that council has given the governing ability it had to the township and the school board continues its quest to one-up New Albany in its facilities, it?’s time to move on.

I?’ll still be around this forum for a while. At the rate the existing home market is moving I expect I?’ll be talking about next year?’s insulting salary increase before this place sells.

Raise!

If I only received a $150 raise, I would be less worried about this and more worried about getting a better job.

I don't think the final decision has been made on how to build the new schools but again it only seems prudent that they look at all the options.

Good luck on selling your house.
Gross vs. Net

Oh the gross raise was adequate but like last year, health benefit costs ate up so much of it and then the schools got most of the rest. Plus all my copays went way up, plus this is another braces year, plus, plus, plus....

Something has to give and I guess that is me. I have to give. Time to downsize and relocate to someplace cheaper.

If you have a better idea, I'm listening.

public input

I'm not worried about parents not having enough time to voice their opinion. Have you ever gone to any of the forums offered by the schools/BOE? I have and it's pitiful how few people show up; I'm talking about a handful! Although the time for public input is during the dinner hour, at least it's after most get out of work so they could attend without missing work.

As for schools, I read that Tussing and Harmon were a basis for the new schools, not the exact models. The layout (e.g., pods for the MS) and materials used in these schools were to be standards for the new schools. But, even Tussing is old enough that current standards (building and materials) should be employed. And, the new schools have to fit on the plots of land available (especially at Sycamore Creek). Tussing may or may not work there. I personally don't think the BOE is trying to pull a fast one here.
