Has the time come for the city to form its own paper township and clearly separate the lines of governance between the township and the city taxpayers?
Our current system has the trustees who over lap the City voters and serve no purpose to those city voters. Their only claim of any importance is that they say they run the Fire Department. For at least the last two decades they have constantly tried to limit the City and its ability to continue to grow and provide the needed infrastructure for the community.
So if the position of the township trustees is to stop the city?’s growth then why would they also oppose the city voter?’s the right to form its own township and sever its few remaining ties with that township government? The only reason is the tax money they continue to extract from the City taxpayers with no services provided in return for that tax. So if you are a city taxpayer then why should you continue to support a group of elected officials that DO NOT REPRESENT YOU AND PROVIDE YOU WITH ZERO PUBLIC SERVICES. The Fire Service could just as easily be handled by the City directly and for probably less tax money.
So here is my question why should the City pay anything to the township when they annex land from the township areas when the township does not provide any services for the service payments and property taxes they currently receive?
If the township is going to sue the city at every turn in these annexations cases then why should the city taxpayers continue to pay for legal service for the township through their property taxes?
Other than hurt feelings and a little loss of city revenues the township could still enter into development contracts with the city if they truly believed in the policy and the good of the community and the school district. How can the Township justify and with their continued threats of going to Canal Winchester to form alliances that they are serious about working with Pickerington and its tax payers?
Finally the township has got their city councilman (Councilman Fix) stooge elected last year and they put him to work immediately. I was shown a campaign report for Mr. Fix and of the $3,800 he received to finance his campaign only $200 came from City residents. It should be noted that in the PATA newsletter dated April 2001 the Editor (Jeffery Fix) published the contributors to the Randy Hughes Mayoral campaign. Please read Mr. Fix?’s comments ?“This list begs the question: Why would all of these people contribute to an election campaign at such a late date (three weeks before the election) when it was already known that the candidate (Mayor Hughes) was running unopposed??”
So Mr. Fix why would all of these contributors outside Pickerington donate to your campaign?
Are you any different than Randy Hughes and those that you continue to run against?
