Candidates

Posted in: PATA
I am starting to try to put together in my mind some candidates for council and the mayor. I am looking at those who are currently involved in city matters and those that have served in the past. Some names come to mind. I think we have at least one person who is taking an active role in trying to effect a positive change who would make a good candidate. I am also thinking about another who is taking a passive, yet influential role in tackling current affairs. So I am seeing two candidates I feel would serve us well for the three of the five seats up for election this fall. I?’ll stick with Brian and Ted for retaining their seats.

The second of the two people I mentioned above I know personally. It is my intention to contact him and talk about if he would run for office. This won?’t be an easy task but one that must be undertaken anyway. What I need to reason out in my mind first is what office I want to encourage him for. I think of this person as a natural leader. I think he can quietly show the way to help us get back on track as he has demonstrated he can in the past. I think this person has been sold short many times for a number of reasons, the main of which is his lack of ego and demand for attention. The second reason I think he has been sold short is his total lack of politics when approaching matters. His staunch position to remain nonpolitical in matters I see as an admirable asset versus the negativism it brought him from partisan politicians in the community. I know what you are thinking. You think that I am short-sighted citing an individual?’s lack of two of the most important aspects in public service as his strongest points of qualification for an office. But hear me out. I'll take a person with the sum of common sense this person carries over politics any day.

I know it is early and not too many people would want to make any sort of announcement as to whether or not they intend to run for office in the fall just yet, but I think the groundwork need to be laid. Now that you have seen the obvious political machine in place that spans the city, township, school board, Canal Winchester and yes, even Lancaster, you see what an uphill battle all candidates will have against this political machine.

I would be curious to hear back from others as to who they think would make good candidates this fall. Let?’s just not be tunnel-visioned in this matter. We have a Trustee seat up that we need a city resident to sit in. We have two school board seats that we need city residents to sit in. While we are all examining our hearts deciding if forming a city township is viable, let us also examine why we do not have city residents in these important seats.

I intend to contact my choice for office in the city and intend to ask him to think about a higher calling. We need a demonstrated leader in the mix and this guy has the track record to serve us well.

?

Let me get this straight.

You're asking people to name some potential candidates for the upcoming election? Did you give us the name of the people you're going to approach in order to entice them to run?

I could'nt make heads or tails from your posting.
Heads and Tails

All I can say is that I have someone in mind that we need in public office. I am not going to out him until I first speak to him. I also think that there are several other people that I have spoken to who think the same thing.
