Open meetings=more +tive input

Posted in: PATA
Since we've seen the effects of closed door negotiations, shouldn't these cooperation meetings be conducted in an open forum? Didn't these officials critize others for the same behavior? Were campaign promises made to avoid this very scenario?

The big question is how do you keep it from happening again? Once again, I have a one track mind. I appreciate those posters in the last string staying with the issue.

I think the basic flaw with the current development agreement was that the city and the Mayor allowed an amateur to do the negotiations and that amateur was also an elected Council member. This amateur chose to meet another elected official to hammer out the details. Once the document was in front of council is was so screwed up that it was DOA before it had a chance. There were three members of council that were only on council for a matter of months and they supported the agreement. The only veteran was Heidi.

These kinds of agreements must be worked out by professionals. Clearly the hired help know more about the subject than most that have been around here for years. They have more at risk because they will be the ones someday to implement the polices the council passes. I am sure if Judy and Tim had negotiated the agreement it would received more support then the one Fix came up with.

I think there a at least a couple of council members that may have grown up the last few months. I think we will find something to salvage out of this failure if everyone keeps their cool and continues to move forward on a process and with a purpose. I have heard of some unlikely people stepping up to the plate to take a turn at this. There may be something to crow about someday but don?’t expect miracles soon.

I think if the relationship with the township is forever damaged then we will move no where. However if a fresh start is allowed and certain attitudes are left at the door then maybe things can improve.
