LANCASTER - The new clerk and manager for Fairfield County will be someone with more than 17 years experience within state government.
Scott Zody, 41, of Lancaster, has been appointed to the position of Fairfield County clerk and manager. He starts Aug. 27 at an annual salary of $59,500.
''I really look forward to working with the County Commissioners, the other county office holders and the public,'' Zody said after the announcement broke Tuesday on the Eagle-Gazette's Web site.
Zody will be responsible for assisting in the administration, enforcement and execution of the policies and resolutions of the Board of Commissioners. He will recommend measures for adoption to the Board and will keep the records of all legal proceedings of the Board.
Zody is the interim executive director for the Ohio Forestry Association. The trade association represents the Ohio wood products industry - including sawmills, manufacturers, loggers and forest landowners.
He worked for the state for 17 1/2 years prior to that job. He rose to deputy director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources before leaving. He stepped down after the transition of Strickland's administration was completed.
The clerk position became vacant after former Fairfield County Board of Commissioners Clerk and Manager Carri Brown resigned June 19. Brown became assistant deputy director of child support services for Ohio Job and Family Services. Fairfield County Commissioner Mike Kiger said he was impressed with Zody during the interview process.
''We just seemed to click right from the beginning,'' Kiger said.
Kiger said all three commissioners had a difficult time picking the finalist for the job. Zody's resume was among the128 submitted to the county. The applications were narrowed to seven and then to four.
Kiger said Zody's resume was very impressive. Zody received a bachelor's degree in education from Ashland University, graduating magna cum laude.
''I was a little concerned about him being over qualified,'' Kiger said. ''But he said he did a lot of clerical work in his current job and was aware of the clerical responsibilities of our job.''
In the end the Commissioners unanimously picked Zody, but there were a number of good candidates and the decision was tough, Kiger said.
Zody said the chance to work closer to home and be involved in Fairfield County was appealing. He lived in Fairfield County for 7 1/2 years with his wife and two children.
''This represents a chance for me to help my friends and neighbors ... ,'' Zody said. ''I found it appealing to be able to pursue a career and work closer to home. This is an opportunity to get back into public service.''

Makes sense to me

I'd take a risk on $12K and PERS versus a sure bet of $60K and PERS anyday!

I've got some beachfront property down Hill Road if anyone is interested.
Monday's the big day!

I'm sooo excited. Heidi's making her grand announcement that she's running for Mayor.

A chill just went up my spine! NOT!
Oh Boy!

Will it be at the gazebo in Bushman Square?

Will the high school band be there?

Will dignitaries from the township be there?

What time? I want to be there!!
