Is it just me or have our elected leaders here in Ohio gone mad?
First we have $3.50 per gallon of gasoline and DeWine doesn?’t vote to drill in the north slope because it might harm the caribou. He is voted out of office and the remaining Senator Voinovich now says he is not sure about firing the Nuclear facility at Piketon Ohio for nuclear enrichment.
Then we have the brain storm with this E-85 which is mostly ethanol and the mileage on it is not as good as regular gasoline. It still cost $3.20 per gallon and it is driving the costs of corn through the roof thus affecting our food supply. So it doesn?’t really save us any money at the pump and it costs us all more for our food.
Here in Ohio our unemployment rates have been higher than the nation for half of the last decade. We continue to lag a full percentage point behind the nation in most months being reported. As we all learned in the Blackwell campaign we spend an ever increasing amount of our tax money for our state colleges only to see these graduates move on to other states and in some cases other countries to find employment. He offered no solutions other than cutting taxes and we was not elected.
Global warming now seems to be the issue binding us together. Our ice caps are melting and the weather is getting much warmer. So the human solution is to cut the green house gases. Despite the comments of Jimmy Carter and his torpedoing of the nuclear program in the 70s nuclear power is once again being considered for the generation of energy for our nation. He claims George W. is the worst President ever I still hold him the worst.
For years now we have had an increasing dependence on foreign oil. The last time I read anything of the subject we import around 70% of our oil from off shore. This not only makes us dependant on foreign countries but make countries vital to us like Iraq.
Right now the ONLY technology available to us is Nuclear Power that can realistic deliver the needed amount of electricity and it is almost unlimited in its availability. America has been scared stiff by the likes of Jimmy Carter and others who bring up the three mile island plant and Chernobyl. Maybe it is time we started looking at the US Navy and the nuclear powered ships in our fleet for the last 60 years. Maybe it is time to look at the France who gets 80% of their energy needs from Nuclear Power. Maybe it is time that Ohio gets on board with Nuclear Power and our leaders become real leaders and pursue this technology. Senator Voinovich needs to know that it is vital to this nation and to this state that we have reliable energy for our nation.
We now have a group trying to put on the ballot a funding issue for our schools. It should be called the Robin Hood issue. Where it robs the rich and pays the poor school districts and they travel on the emotional issue of ?“EDUCATION.?” What good is education if those that are educated move to benefit other taxpayers and states.? Maybe if we could create jobs in Southern Ohio they would have the funding for their own schools and not rely on the richer districts for education and we could keep those math and science kids here in Ohio.
