A challenge to Central Mom

Posted in: PATA
You live in this school district for a reason. In fact, I'll bet that you MOVED here because of the schools.

Regardless, here's my challenge for you ...

Please post 5 positive aspects of this school district. And - for a challenge within a challenge - at least 2 of those 5 positives must include schools that do not feed into Central.

Then list the 5 things that irk you about this District, and how you would improve upon them.

And if you lower the venomous tone, you'll even win extra points.

I'm serious. And I think others who read this site are, too. Can you actually see the good in a school district for which you seem to have so much disdain?

Disdain

Show me the disdain that I have posted here.

I'll wait... Still waiting...

You done? How in the ''H, E, double toothpicks'' can you honestly say that I have shown disdain when I have never, ever voted in any other way than in favor of the school issues? I never have and I never will. I do believe that our schools are terrific and I feel that my kids are getting a top shelf education.

That however, does not change the fact that this community clearly does not support the leadership charged with running this school district. In fact, you are exactly why this and many other levies have failed. If someone speaks out against the system, they are labelled as having disdain for that system. You immediately try and turn the tables and deflect blame away from the real issue (the school board) and point your fingers at me the voter... a voter that supported the issue. Quite frankly I am not your problem. The people that you need to concern yourself with are those that voted NO on Issue 3. Do you have any idea what-so-ever why they did that?

I do... those were votes of no confidence. Have you done any type of survey as to get a handle on why the voters say no? I have... and the vast majority say no because they feel the our school board is not fiscally responsible. In english, they feel that their tax dollars are being mis-managed. Especially when the voters saw the picture on the front page of the Times-Sun and see who is helping run the Issue 3 campaign. Tell us, disdain caster, who is the blonde haired gentlemen pictured with Lisa Reade? You get bonus points if you can educate us as to his past.

It's time people like you start looking in the right direction for the answers to the school woes. The answer is right there in front of you but you're too blinded by arrogance to see it.

No kids

I think you folks that are the school zealots seem to think that Pickerington is all about the school district. Clearly your world is small and it never gets beyond your children. That is fine but not all of us moved to Pickerington for the schools In fact in my case the school were never considered. I believe you would find only about one third of the households in Pickerington have school age children and I am being generous with those numbers.

As we see new ADULT restaurants and other facilities coming into to Pickerington it is making it much more livable for those of us without children. I think the price I bought my house for makes it all worth while for putting up with these constant school levy campaigns. For those that talk about home values you need to find a new tactic maybe you could call FIX.

Property Values

I am also a DINK - but to say I don't live here for the schools would be a mis-statement.

I don't use any of the schools, however, my property values are directly linked to the health of the school system.

That's why I chose a community like Pickerington vs. Columbus or Dublin. You get a great housing value for the dollars spent & the taxes are not terrible although I wish we had a better commercial tax base. But saying that I will also admit that I knew when I moved here the commercial tax base would be a long time if ever coming and knew what it would mean to live in a bedroom community.

Also think every parent should be a ''school zealot'' - if you define a school zealot as someone who is advocating for the schools in which their kids attend & want the best education possible for them - then we'd be better off with a few more zealots for parents.

Maybe today's kids would be in a better place.
