You are missing it
Yes you are missing something. Half of the school district wants for nothing and the other half gets nothing. The district probably spent $14,000,000 more than they had to on the North Complex. Two thirds of the new schools being built are being in the areas where a minority of the students live. They get a free parcel of land for the city school and over spend in the township. Now if grades are the deciding factor then our school board is failing the city schools and the track they are on.
You know a million here and a million there and soon it starts to add up to real money. Granted that some of the mis-spent money is from bond issues but over spending there also leads to operating levy failures. We have three undersized elementary schools within the City limits. When I say undersized I am not talking about the athletic fields. The classroom space is undersized. Then we pass a bond and they buy a 60 acre parcel at the far reaches of the district claiming that is where the growth is. They couldn't have spent the money for a few extra acres for the Pickerington Elementary? They couldn't spent a few more dollars on a vacant lot at Heritage to relieve the morning nightmare there every school day with additional parking? No they say one thing during the bond campaign and then after the campaign they announce they have bought the 60 acres and then say they are redesigning the building to save money. You watch where that money goes. When they had the chance to make the Tiger stadium adequate with the others in the league they gave the school and the city taxpayers an undersized facility.
I am not an expert on education and I doubt anyone on the school board is either. However I know that the environment that you live in and the genes you inherit have a strong bearing on your ability to cope with classroom work. I fully understand the challenges the teachers have in bringing students up to a level comparable to the students that come from homes where the parents have advanced training beyond high school and they are dedication to helping their kids succeed in school. When we compare that to a child that may not have food in the house for breakfast or deceit shoes to wear to school we can almost predict the out come of the disadvantaged kids here.
So why does a school board force these same children to attend school in crowded conditions with over stressed teachers?
You know as well as I that the elitist don't want these minorities mixing with their kids and that is exactly how they are controlling the school board. I doubt any of those on the school board know the word poverty or not having food in the house. Yet they know enough to track these at risk kids through the Central High School and place road blocks in their path.
