Understanding your math
What do you mean by the doubling of the cost of the information officer? Position hasn't existed for 7 years.
Are you saying we should freeze salaries at 2000 levels?

I believe
I didn't post this above but I believe the poster was trying to say that they had a contract person in doing their PIO work and that position was terminated.
Then the super created a new position paying over 2x what they were paying the consultant.
I think that's what was trying to be communicated.

In which case ...
It's my understanding that prior to creating the current Director of Communications position, the district hired a media consultant. Her duties primarily included writing commentary. Those duties did NOT include any internal communication responsibilities.
The current Director of Communications position is much needed. My opinion is that the related salary is appropriate.

Flip-flop
The new communication director does not write pieces for the general public which the last one did.
Now if we could get someone to communicate with the public it'd be great!
