How to beat Riggs

Posted in: PATA
1 - Attendance - she does not have a very good track record when it comes to being able to show up for meetings. Don't we need a Mayor that will be in attendance all the time rather than part time?

2 - Homework - it seems to be too much trouble for Heidi to do the research when it comes to preparing for votes. If she cannot to the work for a council man's pay why should we pay her more as a Mayor and still drop the ball over and over?

3 - Ethics - Heidi took a pay out from Ken Blackwell and called it a severance check when he lost his bid for the Governors office. Clearly she thinks little and does not place much emphasis on the value of TAX DOLLARS. No other way to slice this than the fact that it was wrong and dirty politics to accept this money. Ken Blackwell should be in jail and this cash should be returned.

4 - Conflict of interest - Patrick Bown is running her campaign. This is the same guy that ran Keith Smith's campaign. He had Keith banging on dollars all over town promising to help the senior citizens. Nothing has been delivered. What bill of goods will Patrick have Heidi promising?

Is to have a decent candidate oppose her in the election. Til then, does not matter does it.

Mayor Shaver calling it quits after one term

Pickerington Mayor David Shaver said Tuesday he will not seek re-election in November.

''It's been a pleasure and an honor to serve the community, but I want to focus on my children at this point,'' said Shaver, 51, who has two daughters. ''At some point, you realize that your children are moving on and won't be around much longer, so you want to spend as much time as possible with them.''

Shaver's oldest daughter is attending Ohio University and his youngest daughter is a sophomore at Pickerington High School Central. He also recently became engaged.

Shaver's only term as the city's Republican mayor has been contentious at times, but he said he has no regrets. His four-year term was marked by growth concerns in Pickerington.

''I'm proud of our controlled growth policy and the design standards we've put in place,'' he said. ''I hope those policies are continued by the new administration.''

Shaver also said Pickerington must continue its efforts to improve its relations with neighboring communities.

''We have to keep working to improve our relationship with Canal Winchester and Violet Township,'' he said. ''We have to work harder to keep the lines of communication open with our neighbors.''

Shaver said he won't disappear entirely from the Pickerington scene.

''I've enjoyed being mayor, and I plan to remain actively involved in the community in some fashion,'' he said.

He said he is considering doing charitable work, such as Habitat for Humanity, and he would not rule out a return to politics.

''You never say never, so I could become reinvolved in politics at some point,'' he said. ''But I don't have anything specific in mind at this point.''

Shaver said he will continue to reside in Pickerington. His law practice is also located in Pickerington.
