Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Time to Cut The Cord

The problem with the fire service arrangement is pointed out clearly here. ''what does Kenn Taylor think''? He is not elected he is not under anyone's controls despite what the trustees may say. As we have all seen in recent years the trustees of Violet Township only represent the tax payers of the unincorporated areas of Violet Township. It seems if the ''excuse'' is that the intersection of Columbus and Hill is the problem then how would moving the station to Busey Road resolve the problem? We still have issues with flooding on Busey and Diley roads where a large section of the township will be isolated if we experience any flooding.

The fact is that the township would like to believe that if they build the fire stations outside the city then the city can't reach ''THEIR'' assets and we in the city would need to start from scratch to build a new fire department. Thus preventing the city from demanding an accounting of their taxpayers dollars for its fires service. I think they are mistaken with that policy and time will tell. Assets also include fire trucks.

Placing the township assets away from the population is a mistake in my view. Just because we have free land or land at low cost doesn't make a good decision to place the fire assets that far from our taxpayers and population. I would remind you all of the comments by the PATA newsletter about where Pickerington placed its Police station near the Franklin county border based on ''FREE'' land.

The fact that the Lockville Road building is small and it is downtown should only prove it worth not to abandon the site. The City of Columbus has a fire department statement downtown that is the busiest in the city. The fact is it is where the action is. If we add additional time to travel up Hill or Diley Roads to get to downtown incidents then we are not doing our citizens any favors or protecting them from fire. I have already heard some complaints of poor fire service to city residents and it will get worse.
