Time for year round school
The Teachers union has become the general motors worker's of the 50s. They get everything handed to them because they are ''professionals''. Do they think they are the only professionals in the world? Most teacher's contract are for 200 days. For you none math professionals that is 40 weeks worth of work. Normal hours during anyone of those 200 days is around 6 hours (8:00 AM until 2:30 PM with lunch break). The average professional in the US works at least 8 hours per day. He also works normally 48 weeks times the 8 hours equals 1,920 hours per year. If we pay say an engineer $75,000 per year then he makes around $39 per hour. He also pays part of his health care.
Compare that to a teacher 200 days times 6 hours making $65,000 per year with FULL BENEFITS equals $54.000 per hour. Plus the imputed income for the health benefits. Do any of these teachers claim the full health care coverage? At a previous job I had a company car and the IRS wanted the imputed income from that car and the benefits to me and my family. They also wanted the same thing for my health coverage.
Clearly the Teachers could skip a pay raise to TWO for a while.
If any of you have ever taught in private industry you will find that the classes go year round and for 8 hours per day.
So here's the thing. Lets have a board get our money's worth and have them work year round. Once they have their teaching duties done (6 Hours) have them clean the class rooms and hall ways and cut the custodian staff who by the way work year round.
