What's wrong with you cityfolk?

Posted in: PATA
According to the Fairfield Auditor, the valuation of Violet Township (agriculture and residential) is 465,506,740. The valuation of city for the same is 294,608,020.

Violet pays more in taxes. Why do the city folk get pissy? Help me get it.

By Don't get it...
Your right

The incorporated township (the city, that is; those of us who overpay into the trustee legal/welfare fund) is only approximately 8.5 itsy bitsy square acres and the unincorporated township(urban sprawl in its purest form) is approximately 34 square miles. Can you help me with the math on that. Sorry. We city folk ain't be so book smart.

And those little 8+ acres, information the auditor's site also has, provide 80 some percent of the commercial dollars to the school district? Could you help with the math on that again.

So the ''township'' provides more than 50% of the kids to the schools, less than 20% of the commercial tax dollars, no impact fees per new home built, no parks fees per home built, no help for the police department funding and you don't get it? Gosh, there's that math thing again.

We'll pay the lion's share of Diley Road improvements. And even do a JEDD to give the township some of the income tax. In the spirit of cooperation, you know. Since you fellas can't or won't tax it yourselves. Oh yea, no sewer and water over there for you guys either. Don't worry, we'll pick up that tab, too.

We'll pay for our own sewer and water plants, and a portion of the money we pay in our property taxes goes towrd YOUR county sewer and water plants. Oh yea, and we help pay for the sheriff's department and the county parks you enjoy.

Drive on into the city shop... gas up...watch a parade...hang out at the ball fields or skate parks... and oh yea, enjoy it all at no cost.

Although you could gas up at the new Kroger, if you want to take a chance in that wild and crazy parking lot.(YES!! Welcome to the 21st century! There's now a gas station, yes ''a'' as in one, in the township.) How come no JEDD on that new Kroger site? There was sewer and water there already, so no cooperation was needed there. And no income tax sharing either. I got it now.

Psssst. Hey Jeff. Watch your back on that land in the south where the millions and millions of tax dollars are. They've got sewer and water down there. Just like at Canal Pointe. And that new Kroger. Plus Canal's income tax is 2 percent. Won't the trustees want to split 2 percent rather than 1 percent? Is that why there's rumblings to raise the city income tax to 2 percent? Shhhhhhh. Don't let all this sneak out.

By the way, nice job on the design of that new Kroger parking lot. What is that design called? Islands of Death or Whew, That was Close? Who is responsible for that? Fairfield Regional Planning? Violet Township P & Z? Did the trustees sign off on that? Sorry, can't blame this one on the city.

So, brother townshipian, can you spare a dime? I think you probably can. I want to call you pinhead, but that would be...just mean spirited.
I would say your welome, but that's usually preceeded by a thank you first.

By You definately don't get it
your city

you seem to forget that your city is in my township.

if you don't like it, leave.
the city is learning fast

Let?’s put some actual figures out there to chew on folks.

The property valuation in the Township and in the PLSD is (according the Fairfield County Auditor?’s site): $490,346,610

The Property valuation from the city is for the PLSD is: $371,001,510

The population for the township according to the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce is: 17,495 That works out to $28,027 per resident in the township.

The population in the City is 14,968 or $24,755 per resident.

The amount of valuation in the city per student is $101,738

The amount of property valuation in the township per student is $116,638

Now to why the city residents are so ?“pissy?” with the township.

Now just relating to the school district there are some more amount of dollars coming from the township. However when you also look at the PLSD facilities in the township versus the city then you begin to realize the ?“TRUE?” disparity. Even the most recent bond issue to build schools in the township versus the city the school district is paying for roads that the township should be providing. Why do we need TWO schools in the township versus ONE school on donated land for the City? Once these facilities are completed I think we will all see yet another monument to themselves in the township part of the school district. Despite the valuation in the township being a little higher they certainly get their money?’s worth.

Now lets look beyond the school district for fairness.

The township residents are putting NOTHING into the widening of Diley Road. That road will benefit the township and the city residents yet the city taxpayers will shoulder the entire burden of that $8 Million debt service.

The City sewer users are about to invest nearly $10 Million in a sewer plant expansion. I understand that most of the PTI?’s issued by the EPA are for commercial developments in the city. If the City sewer users were to not spend this money the PLSD would potentially lose over 300 acres of commercial development within the district and it would more than likely turn to residential once the housing market recovers.

The city water users continues to provide water for the Canal Pointe industrial park. I see they regularly spend their money to expand the plant to provide service to that park. The unincorporated Township residents provided NOTHING. Yet they receive in tax sharing from Canal Winchester (not in our school district) over $115,000 per year. When our head negotiator Jeff Fix tried to have Pickerington included in the CEDA agreement we were rejected for a second time. Yet our township Trustees continue to lie that they invited Pickerington to the original CEDA agreement talks only to be ferreted out by a quote from Terry Dunlap that we were not invited to those first CEDA talks.

None of the Canal Pointe income helps the PLSD of which 42% of the students come from the unincorporated areas of the township.

How many of the township residents use rt256 in the mornings to get to work. Except for your state taxes you provide NOTHING from your local pocket books to update and repair that road.

Finally the township opposes any Pickerington annexation and allows freely the annexations by Canal Winchester in the Pickerington school district after they all said they would not annex into PLSD.

SO WHY DOES VIOLET TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES CONTINUE TO SCREW THE CITY TAX PAYERS?
