I?’ve pondered whether or not I would respond to the Webmasters decision to remove my posting. I have even started several postings calling this incident into question. My emotions have ranged from anger to disappointment to basic curiosity. I think that I?’m ready to respond to your decision. I applaud your decision to bring credibility back to the PATA website. Credibility has been long lacking from this website and its return is indeed welcome. I would like to toss out a few questions following your decision if I might.
First, I?’m going to stand by the purpose of my posting regarding the Shaver administration. I freely admit that I do not like Mayor Shaver but I believe that my question of how history will remember his time at City Hall is fair. I invited no one to attack, I invited no one to pile on, and I merely posed a question based upon facts and past events. I was under the impression that this is what the PATA website was all about. There was nothing more and nothing less in my posting.
Next, I believe (and this is totally my opinion) that if you are to continue to moderate this website and intend to take steps such as removing postings that offend you, a list of rules and regulations must be published. I read a number of message boards on topics from high school sports to technology discussions for trouble-shooting issues. PATA is the first that I have encountered that does not enforce rules pertaining to the posting of messages. As stated earlier, I applaud your decision but you need to take the next necessary steps rather than making knee jerk reactions to postings that you don?’t like. Tell us what the ground rules are so that all can follow and expect them to be enforced evenly. PATA is a public message board, it isn?’t owned by anyone even the current Webmaster. I?’d be willing to bet that basic listing of guidelines would be a very welcome addition.
Lastly, I understand the position that you are in and I think that I have a pretty good handle on what you are trying to do. I?’ve been where you are. Personally I would like to see more people use their names on this site. I firmly believe that much of the stuff you are trying to eliminate would fall by the wayside if posters where expected to use their names rather than hide behind the ?“Anonymous?” tag that virtually all use on this site. Free speech arguments aside, saying, thinking, typing something that we expect others to read contains more credibility when the author adds their name at the end. I know what you?’re thinking, that is a HUGE step to take. But at least consider it.
Thank you for your dedication to the website. This is a great site and is a tremendous source of information about the community.
Oh?… almost forgot. What did I mean when I said that I?’ve been where you are? Well, that?’s easy. I?’m the Coyote.
