Thanks Tory, for:
A. Signing your name.
B. Giving your opinion
Tory, let me clarify I don't have an opinion about this yet. Do I have a ton of questions that need answered ?– yes. Do I have reservations ?– yes. Do I see the potential of these cameras ?– yes. Did I vote No last night on the study ?– yes. Does that mean I?’m opposed to cameras ?– not necessarily.
I don?’t think we need to be jumping in head first with a study from a company without having our questions answered up front. Having a vendor provide a study to me is kind of like having the fox watch the henhouse. :-)
Tory you?’re in the IT field. Would you have IBM come in and do a study to determine if you need to buy some more hardware from them? Or would you do your due-diligence UP-FRONT and then talk to the vendor?
Jeff mentioned in his reply to you the statistics the company provided showing a significant decrease?…. Well ?“DUH?” ?– no offense Jeff but if you were trying to sell a new product would you EVER present negative information to a potential buyer? Sure the motor?’s going to fall out of the car after you drive it off the lot but studies have shown that?…
Sorry for the sarcasm but come on. The guy presenting the information is a salesperson!
When I questioned him about the negative studies his demeanor quickly changed last night and he didn?’t know anything about them supposedly. If I were selling these I?’d know about the negative studies and at least have an answer ready to go to try and discredit the negative information.
Jeff is right though ?– we won?’t have any information about estimated # of tickets, revenue, etc until after the study. But you can estimate a 25/75 split on the revenue with the city receiving the 25% at the onset of this project when it starts. That?’s about all I know right now from a revenue standpoint.
There are 2 things I can think of right now that I'm going to request when the contract comes back.
1. We can remove cameras at intersections if there is an increase in the number of accidents.
2. Contract is null and void if the call-center goes overseas.
