Hanging chads??

Posted in: PATA
I am amazed that our politicians can come before the public and say the things they say with a straight face.

Remember in the 2000 presidential race in Florida how Al Gore?’s people complained that they had won and threw the nation into a constitution crisis over the punch card ballots. They had investigations in the congress and found all kinds of reasons to do away with the punch card ballots which by the way were simple and cheap.

Then John Kerry lost in Ohio, in 2004, by over 100,000 votes then only to claim statistical fraud. Their claim was that the polling data didn?’t match the actual votes so something must be wrong. So what did they all blame? The punch card ballots.

Then Secretary of State of Ohio, Ken Blackwell, under political pressure decided to change all of the voting machine in Ohio to the touch screens machines for voting.

Then it was revealed that Ken Blackwell owned stock in the company that won the contract to supply the new voting machines. I can not find a dollar amount we all paid for the new voting machines but I remember it was in the millions and more that our state budget could afford at the time. I believe the federal government also sent money our way to help offset our costs.

Based on the previous two national elections and a couple of other scandals at the state the voters cleaned house. Anyone associated with Taft and then Blackwell were sweep out of office.

WE ALL WANTED CHANGE.

Less than a year in office the new Democratic SOS is proposing that we go back to the paper ballots. This time thin paper ballots that are subject to jams in the scanners. The very same mechanisms we have in our desk top printers will now scan thousands of these ballots per minute. Remember how good your printer worked when you first brought it home? Then the rollers because impregnated with paper dust and they started to slip? Welcome to $17 Million more dollars to cause even more headaches in the future.

Notice where they are having the problems again in Cuyahoga county. The new SOS ordered paper ballots for all county BOEs and they only used under 1% at a cost of $852,000.

I only hope we saved the punch card machines. They worked fine and they were very easy to understand. The scan ballots will have the very same problems in some occasions so to the General Assembly stop the insanity and NOT fund Jennifer?’s scheme. She is being sold a bill of goods and she is wasting our money.

If they have those problems in Cuyahoga county then replace the members of their board of elections. OHHH I forgot they already did that. If this is such an issue then some where along the line the voters in this county must take on the responsibility to learn how to vote. There is no method that is perfect.

So don?’t treat the rest of us like idiots because of one county!!!

System is a joke

The United States election system is a joke and is fast on it's way of being outed by the rest of the world. In India and many other nations that so many Americans view as backwords and lesser to the US still use paper ballots where the voter simply marks an ''X'' as to their choice of person or issue.

Once they have cast their ballot, they immediately dip their finger into ink in order to identify that they have already cast their ballot.

So tell me which process is simpler? Elections in India have gone largely uncontested for decades with but a few exceptions of course. And Indians will stand in line for up to 10 hours to cast their vote without complain. Americans try an try to fix a hopeless process and have the gall to whine about standing in line for more than a few moments.

Almost makes one embarassed to be American.

Dear Disgusted

Give us your name and I'll raise the money for you and your disgusted family to move to India. Go dunk you head in ink.

By I'll dive you to the airport.
Create confusion...Divide and...

Two quotes from James L. Crates, a lawyer and former member Hardin County Board of Elections SOS Jennifer Brunner wouldn't reappoint.

Brunner is ''employing storm trooper tactics to carry out her agenda.''

''but what she is doing is creating and increasing a lack of public trust in our voting system.''

Folks, I feel Ohio is being set up as to become the new Florida in the next election.
