These camera's are sold to the public as a safety issue. They are sold to council as a revenue generator. If receipts from the tickets generated are low, the light timing can be modified to create more offenders. Our traffic lights can be programmed remotely. While there may be a decline in T-Bone type accidents, I've heard columbus has experienced an increase in rear-end crashes due to camera shy drivers. Since Columbus has these camera's installed, maybe they would share their experience to verify the value to the taxpayers in improved safety for the money.

This is not about safety or raising the city's revenues. It is about Fix and Smith getting time with the media and the evening news. It also diverts our attention away from the city budget.
