I think that if you check things out you'll see that the original amount constituted toeing the line. That means the city would not go insolvent. The additional money would be used to restore much needed items like police officers, street paving and other improvements being asked for by residents.
So, my decision will be based on:
1) Status Quo. We continue to fall behind in the number of police to keep our city safe. My street continues to degrade (because my brother is in the paving business and I can tell you that they can't afford what that cost has gone up to with the $1.7M option), with virtually no Parks and Rec staff the parks will continue to degrade.
ETC., ETC. ETC.
2) I will trust that council and staff will work to reinvest any additional funds in city infrastructure and other amenities and pay down our debt all of us expect from a city this size, and yes, of our affluence.
Maybe we should ask the Mayor to call a community meeting for them to hear what we want and for them to tell us what we can expect from either a status quo option or an option that brings in additional money.
