Right Turn on Red?
In Los Angeles, 80% of tickets are generated from rolling right turns - not the big safety problem running a straight red light is and is considered to be revenue generating. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-redlight19-2008may19,0,5321069.story?page=2 How many tickets need to be generated monthly to make this viable for each camera installed? This is just like housing permits - they needed to build so many per year to stay in business. Who will select the locations for these cameras? ''They are basically looking for locations that have a high violation rate. We are looking for locations with a high collision rate. . . . Shortening the Yellow Light...
Who will keep Pickerington honest? Can we establish the time of the yellow light at each intersection with a camera & monitor that? Or will we be faced with what these 6 cities were & had officials shorten the yellow lights to increase revenue when a camera wasn't producing enough? What is the monthly cost that needs to be generated minimally to support these camera?
