Happy New Year!!

apples to apples

if i understand it right, the story says that there are 3 shifts of 2 officers each.

i don't know anything about how much coverage is necessary, but do you think that only 2 officers on duty at a time is adequate for a town the size of pickerington?

if i understand the numbers in the story, canal pays about half of what pickerington does for about half the number of officers. sounds like if you compare apples to apples, pickerington is in line.

am i missing something?

Apples to Apples

If you take the total bill that Canal is paying to the sheriff's department per year and subtract the full time sergeant and the full time dispatcher you have enough to pay for 10 full time deputies out of the $828K.

I think the poster said that Pickerington is paying nearly $4 Million for their police protection. That is FIVE time more than Canal is paying for its police protection and I am sure Pickerington is not FIVE times larger. Even if you tripled the $828K you still would only have $2.5 million for police protection in Pickerington and that would employee 30 deputies, if given the same deal as Canal.
Police station

How much of that figure is for the debt on the police station? Nothing is going to get rid of that dollar figure.
rent it

Rent it to the county for a substation that would pay part of the debt service!
