I am getting very confused.

I read in the local paper that the city was facing a $ 6,000,000 deficit over the next 5 years. In the same article is says that the city expense committee is still working on cuts. I think the figure was around $350,000.

1. If the city is still working on making cuts why are they asking for a tax increase before any cuts are made?

2. It sounds to me that if the voters pass this tax increase then the city council will continue to misspend our money how do we know for sure?

Fix says we are $30,000,000 in debt. In one instant then he says he wants to lower the debt then starts to talk about doing all of these capital improvement projects on the books.

3. Won?’t these new street projects cost the city more money and get the city deeper into debt?

4. Is the recreation center on his list of projects to do?

5. If the population increases have slowed or stopped then why should we spend money on street improvements? Can?’t we wait until the housing market picks up again?

I have heard a number of comments regarding who will pay this tax increase and who won?’t. On the other side, I have heard people challenge those numbers and comments. I also recall that Brian Wisniewski ran on making decisions with data.

6. So how can Mr. Wisniewski vote to place a tax increase on the ballot without making the cuts first?

7. What data is he using to determine the size of the tax increase? (It seems that if the city made the $350,000 per year cuts then the deficit would only be around $4.2 Million)

A couple of months ago I heard that the city would be able to raise $1,700,000 per year with a 2% income tax and a 100% credit up to 1.5% of ones income. I have also heard that those numbers were wrong. That the above income tax increase and credit will actually bring in $2,700,000 per year in revenues.

8. If the city council was willing to raise the revenues by $1,700,000 a couple of months ago why do they now feel they need another million per year with no cuts?

9. What data are the members of council using to make either decision?

To Fix and Sanders:

Is this a back door way to fund a recreation center?

To Wisniewski:

What data are you using to make your decisions?

To Sauer;

What cuts are available and when will the expense committee get their work done?

To Smith:

Why have we reached this point? I am sure with your resume you could have seen this coming a couple of years ago? Why are we just reacting to the budget problem?

To Sabatino:

You have been on council the longest and being a bussines man where would you cut?

To Hammond:

How much money will be enough for you and this city? When times are tight shouldn?’t we all cut our spending and not try to break the bank with more projects and new revenues?

Fortunately the voters will have the final say.
