In 1964, the country had a small war going in Southeast Asia. Lyndon Johnson who was elevated to the presidency after the assassination of JFK was running against Barry Goldwater for a full term. Mr. Goldwater was a general in the Air Force and a U.S. Senator. The LBJ campaign painted Goldwater as a radical that would lead us into a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. I think we have all seen the campaign commercial that showed the little girl picking daisies and it ends with a nuclear mushroom cloud.
No sooner was he elected in a landslide that he ordered the bombing of North Viet Nam. He couldn?’t find generals to run his war and he went so far as to pick the North Viet Nam targets for the U.S. Pilots on Tuesday mornings in the Whitehouse. Obama already has shown that he will ignore the Generals on the ground and put our troops at risk to suit his own political agenda. His own VP candidates warns of a test. Our enemies in the world see him as naive and weak. You can bet we will be tested.
By the end of LBJ?’s four years after being elected he chose not to run for a second term. He had created a huge government that had generations living in poverty and on wellfare for generations. He allowed a war to escalate where the U.S. lost nearly 60,000 troops. He opened the door for the election of Richard Nixon.
To punish the Americans for electing Nixon the middle east withheld oil. That caused the 55 MPH speed limits we recently were able to get away from.
Then out of anger the American electorate elected Jimmy Carter. They voted against Ford because he pardoned Nixon. They voted with anger and emotion.
Clearly Jimmy Carter was suppose to be the smartest President ever to be elected. However by the end of his only term in Office the inflation, the interest rates and the unemployment rates were all double digit. We had 52 Americans being held in Iran and they were finally released the day Reagan was sworn in.
Today we have a President that had to deal with an attach on our shores because we neglected the terrorists in Afghanistan. I think he screwed up with Iraq in that he underestimated the resolve of the enemy and didn?’t provide enough troops on the ground to carry out the mission. Despite the World Trade Center attack and the two wars our economy has continued to grow. Our unemployment is at 6.1 percent and the interest rates are very low. Yes this administration has made some mistakes. However there are efforts to close the loop holes that caused the recent Wall Street meltdown. Obviously the horse is already out of the barn.
Out of a fit of anger, the American electorate once again seems poised to elect an unknown candidate that is protected by the press and that no one really knows anything about. Instead of trying to fix the things wrong with our capitalistic system. This new candidate, that is very liberal, will ride into office on the back of anger for George W. Bush much like what was done in 1964 and 1976.
Why should we expect anything different in conditions of 2012 than from 1968 and 1980? The expectations of Obama will never be met even by his most loyal supporters.
