Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

My two cents

On the comeback trail

Tory,

You are right. You have no trepidation in posting your opinions and putting your name to them. Admirable.

Although I don't always agree with you, you have character. How about running again this fall? We need people like you. We apparently have a council now that is simply too afraid to make the big calls. We need someone less timid.

Plus there is the added attraction of watching Fix take you under his wing and make you one of ''Jeff's boys.'' Although I hope he realizes what a terrible rejection we're planning for him in November, watching your reaction to him trying to buddy up with you during the campaign is well worth the price of admission.

Funny posting

I don't think that we need to worry about Jeff trying to ''take me under his wing''. That bridge has already been put to the torch.

In response to the question in the earlier posting. The point that was lost in the all the red light camera debate was simply to put an end to those running red lights. But unfortunately big brother, George Orwell, distrust of technology and what am I forgetting??? Oh yeah... the city might make a couple of bucks on fines for traffic offenses.

I hope this answers the question.

Sounds like one of the boys

Tory,

I guess where we disagree is do we have a chronic problem of people running red lights? You say yes, I say no. Even if this perceived problem of people running red lights is a fact which would be based on some kind of scientific criteria then is it affecting our safety? Clearly if we have only had one accident in a year at these four intersections that would have been the result of a red light being ran then I would say the odds are with us all that running red lights in Pickerington is not a problem or does it present any kind of safety issue for our drivers. May be a little aggravating but not really causing a safety issue.

Besides it gives us all the opportunity to test our horns, fingers and teach our children some bad words.

The solution (technology) being offered for this perceived problem is worse than the problem itself. In every other case when a person commits a driving offense, that driver must be identified before he can be cited for that offense. These red light cameras only must identify the vehicle NOT the driver and if the vehicle is identified then the owner gets a ticket and that owner has no recourse to challenge the charge against him or her. Tory that is un-American.

The State of Ohio has worked for years to shut down Mayor?’s Court in these small burgs that set up speed traps to raise money for the village or town and once you got the ticket you had to face their Mayor. They brought in the revenues while affecting your driving privileges. Here you get a ticket from a for profit company and you do NOT get a court appearance. You are guilty and just try to prove your innocence.

I think this council needs to sped more time tying to find a way to raise its revenues through taxes not fees and fines. Simply trying to put in place frivolous fees and fines is only going to drive a wedge between the city hall and its residents.

If you read the council minutes over the last year or so of council they seem to be lost and searching for the right gimmick to charge the citizens without their knowledge and basically sticking it to the people. I don?’t think any of them on council now deserve to be reelected based on this performance. From red light cameras to RITA and inspection fees and noise ordinances, charter review, county health department etc., maybe they all need to refocus their collective efforts toward fixing the city finances. Making decisions is what they were elected to do and they fear they won?’t be reelected if they propose another income tax increase or what ever seems appropriate for the current budget situation. Clearly under Fix?’s leadership they are lost. Tory; if you are not one of Fix?’s boys you sure sound like him with a closed mind.
