4 'stargazers' arrested on roof of Pickerington Elementary
August 25, 2009
PICKERINGTON -- Four people are expected to be charged today after they allegedly climbed to the top of Pickerington Elementary School early this morning.
Pickerington Police Cmdr. Steve Annetts said two adults and two juveniles climbed up portable buildings to get to the roof of the school, where they planned to ''stargaze.''
A nearby resident called Pickerington police after he witnessed them climbing on the school about 2 a.m., Annetts said.
A Columbus Division of Police helicopter was dispatched to the area to locate the suspects, and members of the Violet Township Fire Department arrived to help the suspects off the roof with a ladder.
Pending charges for the adults are criminal trespass and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Pending charges for the two juveniles are curfew and criminal trespass.
The adults were booked and then released, and the juveniles were booked and released to one of their guardians.
Annetts said names of the juveniles will not be released because of their age, and names of the adults will be released once charges are officially filed.
