''Oops, I did it again...''

The council held a ?“special meeting?” to correct a mistake. It seems they ?“missed it by that much?” as Maxwell Smart used to say. At what point did the City realize they broke the rules and passed legislation without quorum? Over coffee or a beer after the meeting? After a concerned citizen mentioned it to them? Another annexation issue ?– another questionable procedure. Mr. Mapes says they didn?’t realize they didn?’t have quorum. What methods do they use to realize quorum? At the meetings I attend where quorum is required, we look around the room and count the people present. If the count comes out to less than what is required for quorum, we delay voting until the number of people required equals the same number of fingers we have sticking up. If we have 7 people supposed to be at a meeting and five of them are required to be in attendance for a quorum (only one hand required for this procedure)and I see only four fingers sticking up after one attendee abstains, I deduce that we are short.

Citizens and taxpayers of Pickerington, doesn?’t this tell you something? The council routine is so blatantly evident that it is now gaining press coverage in its ineptitude. The following is a fictional transcript of ?“business as usual?”:

?“I would like to introduce the hostile annexation of 500 acres from the city of Hilliard and because of its undoubtedly controversial nature, I would like to declare it an emergency.?”
?“I second the motion?”
?“All in favor??”
?“YEAYEAYEAYEAYEAYEAYEANext??”

Come election time, please remember our publicly elected people can?’t even count. They can?’t count bodies to vote on legislation. They can?’t count how many times they have violated the law by not providing required information to the public or other city governments when required (vacations, holidays, ?“Oh, that?’s just too many pages. It will ruin our copier and I don?’t trust that Kinkos to get it right.?”) They can?’t count votes. But they sure can count number of acres annexed against the landowners?’ will. They can count the number of developers they turn Pickerington over to, and they can sure count the dollars shipped into the city come election time, regardless of whether or not you are running uncontested. They can?’t count the number of time they have screwed you over, but if you just listen and read, YOU CAN!
