I?’ve been working insane hours at work lately and wasn?’t able to make it to the school board meeting on Monday. I have a few questions for the PLSD board and I know some members monitor this page so I?’d appreciate any feedback you, the board, are willing to provide.
I haven?’t seen anything in the paper about the new schools NOT opening so I?’m assuming they will open this fall. Isn?’t it true that not opening the new middle school would nearly balance the budget? What if the new high school and middle school were not opened ?– what would the school districts budget look like for the coming year? I realize a few more trailers may be needed at the middle and high school but we?’ve been operating like this for years so what?’s a few more trailers amongst friends? Yes we may look like idiots for building a $75 million dollar behemoth and not be able to open it but so what?
If we are in such dire straights that we have to cut out band, sports, ?½ day kindergarten, theater, busing, and such (ie. all of the emotional programs that get voters attention) then why isn?’t the OPENING, or NOT OPENING of the new schools an option? I?’ve read quotes in the papers that there are negative affects to sending kindergarten age children to school all day every other day but it?’s going to come down to the almighty $. So let me know if I?’ve got this straight. The board is willing to sacrifice the quality of the education of our youngest students in the school district so we can open our new schools? I would love to know the thought process behind this.
The board lost a lot of credibility with me when I saw the schools being built off of Refugee. I wasn?’t as informed as I should have been at the time when I voted for those new buildings but I operated under the assumption that the board wouldn?’t present anything to the public that wasn?’t necessary and fiscally responsible. I WON?’T MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN! I know some of the tax and spenders of the board are gone so I?’m willing to give the board another chance. However it really seems to me that you, the board, are tying to go for the emotional issues to get this next levy passed instead of going after the new schools and that doesn?’t sit very well with me at all.
Thank you.
