Is it possible to declare an emergency in my next family meeting and decide to do a hostile secession from the City of Pickerington? What is Pickerington providing me that Violet Township can't? I've lived in Violet Township before and found their services to be adequate. The road was plowed and repaired when necessary. I had the Sheriff and the Fire Department. My street in the City is seldom to never plowed and has potholes. I would prefer to drill a well. While I like city water for the pressure, I would prefer well water to wash the cars and water the lawn. Can I do that? If the City can steal, excuse me, borrow water from the Pickerington Ponds aquifer, can?’t I use a little from under my property? I won?’t use a lot, I promise. The City would hardly notice. Just like we won?’t notice a few inches from the Ponds, right? What am I really getting for my money?
If I am not successful in seceding from the City, can I volunteer to have the City?’s Business Park located here? If this park exists, I assume it is on paper. Perhaps we can laminate the paper and stick it in my back yard. Here?’s a good one, if I am successful in my secession and am later reannexed by a hostile declaration of an emergency, using the figures provided by Mr. Menoski, I?’ll be actually adding nearly $4000 to the school district because I have more than one kid.
OK, is this letter foolish? Absolutely. But come on folks, how long are we going to tolerate the foolishness in the City Government? It?’s really time for a public outcry here. What has the City done for you lately? Where?’s the new City Park promised by the new water tower on the east end of town? You want to know? They spent all the tax dollars you provided to pay an exorbitant price for the land. So much, in fact, there wasn?’t enough left in the budget to do a single other thing. How sad. I suppose it?’s better than letting Maronda expand their Simsbury II trailer park any further. Would any of the owners of the Maronda jewels care to comment on the quality of their homes in this forum? This is the type of developers the City is so fond of. Rack em, pack em and stack em, then disappear like smoke. What about the deplorable condition of the existing parks?
One of the few public readings lately has been about the Mayor?’s promised bike path. Where is it? How long is it? Will it all be in safe areas? Sorry I wasn?’t able to attend the meetings where it was discussed, but I?’ve had my fill of that madness. It this the best we can do? How about improved ingress and egress routes to our bedroom community? How about a well-deserved Olde Downtown Village bypass? We can ride bikes in all the new subdivisions going up. Is a bike path the most prudent use of tax dollars?
Let Canal Winchester and Violet Township be. It doesn?’t affect our schools and it doesn?’t affect the City. Get out of bed with the developers for a day and use the Diley Road area land wisely. You won?’t have the chance again. Once the first house is built, it?’s over. Zone it for your promised Business Park. If you zone it, they will come?…?…
