Thanks for reiterating
Violet,
Thanks for the reiteration of what we can't get across to the voters of Pickerington and Violet Township often enough. All races affect all of us. They are community elections. Each entity affects the other. At the current rate of annexation, there won?’t be a Violet Township in a couple of years. The School Board election can?’t escape notice either as being seemingly unrelated to the others. The current Board majority is deeply entwined with the City Council. If they weren?’t, there is no way they could stay mute about the growth, TIFs, max density rezoning, etc., and their profound effect on the schools. Effects reaching beyond classroom size, facilities, portables, cost per pupil, and achieving XX out of XX standards. Our children?’s safety is now at risk. Traffic increases and the demands placed on the bus drivers increases. The secret annexation of the land down Pickerington Road will funnel a lot more traffic towards the high school and the relatively inexperienced teen drivers. Also the many, many houses approved and under construction along the Hill Road area will be heading cars towards the High and Junior High schools. And let us not forget all the construction vehicles required to make Council's dream of 4 houses per acre on every acre in the 43147 zip. For those of you unable to attend the Meet the Candidates night, if you were, you probably would have had to get to the Junior High School via a detour through the High School property. That is unforgivable on the part of Mr. Yocum and the City Council. If you have driven through the area during a typical school day, you will find cars parked all along Opportunity Way with children walking out between those cars and opening doors to those cars without paying much attention to what is happening around them. Add the traffic from the Hill Road detour and you have a disaster waiting to happen. If Yocum and his buddies on the Council aren't willing to admit their mistake and change it today, we can look forward to years of retrospective regrets if the unthinkable happens.
Anyway, that is a pet peeve of mine and I won?’t bee any wordier about it than I have to. I would also like to thank you for reminding the voters that they don?’t have to punch 3 holes in a ballot just because there are 3 seats open. Vote for whom you want in office ONLY. People will ultimately get into office that you don?’t want to at times, but don?’t void a good choice just because you think you have to. Also don?’t forget to ask questions if you have any about write-in candidates. It only takes a couple of seconds to write a name on the ballot and the voting booths are required to provide you a pencil when there is a write-in candidate on the ballot, so not having one in you pocket is no excuse. The people working the polls are very helpful and knowledgeable about what they are doing. But remember they are people like us. They get tired after a long day and might not seem as helpful or knowledgeable as I am claiming here, but be patient and give them a chance. Voting is not a requirement ?– it is a privilege and civic duty. Don?’t rush and don?’t be careless. The longest lines at the polls are the ones I stand in at my precinct. I want to get home, too, and I may have rushed a time or two, but no more. The issues at stake are too important to be impatient.
