For all the less-than-friendly discussion here on this website, I?’m pleased there is a growing consensus among community citizens, PATA members, school supporters and our Citizens for a Strong Violet Township-Pickerington supporting three of the sixteen candidates running this fall in the Pickerington area.
Terry Dunlap and Harry Myers are both headed for victory in their race for Violet Township Trustee against two lesser-known but quality individuals. Dunlap and Myers are supported by the vast majority of PATA members and citizens backing pro-teamwork & cooperation candidates. I was most impressed with the quote in Myers literature from PATA backers, The Ricketts. John & Rita Ricketts have a big influence on this community, and I?’m delighted to see such influential citizens back Harry Myers. In addition, for an elected Fairfield County official like Pickerington's Ed Laramee's boss, Barb Curtiss, to make a public endorsement in the race is also very important. Their endorsement will help Myers win the election.
In addition, there is also a similar community consensus toward Wes Monhollen to elect him to our school board. He has been received the endorsement of nearly every current and former public officeholder in Violet Township. In his literature, the list of individuals supporting him contain many PATA members, taxpayers, teachers, school supporters, nearly every civic association leader in the area, and almost all current and former public officeholder in the Township.
Finally, in terms of the school board, I?’m glad to see Gail Oakes took my advice and changed the top three issues impacting our schools in her recent mailing. I know incumbents win in 90% of the races and Oakes is an incumbent. However, I have been shocked by the lack of support for her and the anti-incumbent attitude prevelant in the school board race. I think Oakes contributed to this attitude with her broom stunt during the Labor Day Parade. According to residents in her neighborhood in Jefferson Woods, Oakes has little support. I?’m also surprise that PATA spokesperson, Bob Harding, does not even have a sign for Oakes in his yard or windows at his house. There seems little support for Oakes even on this website outside of the usual individuals who are afraid to sign their names to their posting?– who knows Soup Box, or Voter could really be Gail Oakes or Bruce Rigelman.
Again, I think we ought work hard to find areas we can agree on and I?’m glad to see us all endorse at least a third of all candidates.
