The BIG One!!! (11-6-01) pt.1

Posted in: PATA
Greetings!

Here I am with one more posting before the ''big one'' on Tuesday. Remember, should the good 'ole boys get re-elected/elected (most of these candidates were appointed - if you'll remember), come back to the P.A.T.A. website for my advice on what a Pickerington city resident should do, ?“?…if these mindless, rubberstamping, Joyce Bushman puppets get re-elected?” (Ref. 8/23/01, u.v.t.r. [1] Mystery Community: [2] Last Posting). Regardless of the election outcome and content of my ramblings, it will be my last posting (Mark Uher, are you reading? I said [wrote] it and I'm not going to lie to you - it shall be the last. Being honest is quite honorable. We would have respected you, Mark, if you were honest. Instead, you lied and we're ashamed of you. Restore your honor, Mark! Apologize and refrain from further postings. Are you not an honorable man?)

That being said, I wish to thank, once again, the members of P.A.T.A. and Bob Harding especially, for their fine efforts to bring these community issues to the forefront and for also giving this community a forum to present differing viewpoints on issues that greatly affect our quality-of-life standards in Violet Township. It is going to be real interesting to see exactly how much influence P.A.T.A. has on this community and how much influence one can actually make in solving the problems of a modern day society in the good old U. S. of A.! The problem in ol?’ Pictown being greed and power at all cost (B & G, are you reading?…)

Moving on, there has been some advice given in the local papers regarding how one should vote and I think that this is certainly well-worth a
reiteration. Statistically speaking, for city residents, if you decide to cast all four of your entitled votes this Tuesday for city council representative, the chances of getting David Shaver and Ted Hackworth elected are greatly reduced! It is to the advantage of Mr. Shaver and Mr. Hackworth that you only cast two votes, both for them of course. That way, there is no chance that one of the other candidates will surpass Mr. Shaver or Mr. Hackworth once they combine their ?“free-bee?” votes (votes that you voters would give them just to make sure you cast all four of your entitled votes) and the ''pocket votes'' or the votes of their supporters city employees, developers, misinformed CoC members, school district teachers vying for cushy administrative positions, and the family and
friends of the Parker's, Maxey's, Moonbrake's & Wright's). By combining these ?“free-bee?” votes to their ?“pocket votes?”, they could mathematically oust your candidate. Yep -- that's right; by exercising all of your voting
authority (casting all four votes) you could, unwittingly, ouster your own candidate! Continued?…

The BIG One pt. 2

By no means am I advocating that you vote for one candidate or another. If you are reading this discussion posting, you probably have more
information than you need to decide for yourself. What I want you to realize is that in 1999 Pickerington had a chance to really make a change in the direction the city was heading. The city residents failed to capitalize on that election and it has cost them dearly. Indeed, the suffering that they have just begun to endure is in fact going to get much worse in the coming years and there is nothing they can do about it. The decisions made by those elected in 1999 and those appointed thereafter take years to play out. The hemorrhaging continues and will take years to stop. The traffic/commuting delays, increased fees/taxes, levy renewals; congestion,
long lines and poor city planning are going to get worse. It is a fact! Many of you already know this. And just because you get a couple of new faces on city council doesn't mean things will change instantly. There are thousands of homes yet to be built and new faces on city council cannot stop that. Curbs, gutters, sewers, water-taps, lights & signs have been guaranteed by the city's annexation agreements. The city is legally bound to take action on these items at taxpayer expense (they're well into the millions of dollars of your money!)

Now, in 2001, city residents have another opportunity to change the direction the city is heading, which is still quite the same direction it has been heading for the last 5 years. Please note: the city has be sued by Canal Winchester, lambasted in the paper by Ms. Pifer for their
hostile annexation attempt of her land, had a referendum initiated against their automatic R-4 decision, spent millions of dollars on annexation,
developer incentives and legal fees, harassed by ordinary citizens at council meetings, and the council president flat out lied about the never
using emergency legislation for rezoning. Another interesting point is that Pickerington city council is using emergency legislation for about 80% of their ordinances. This is unprecedented! There is something evil going
on downtown and it would behoove you city residents to take a look into the pit. I can understand the city resident's apprehension to confront these monsters and ask, ''Just what the heck are you people doing to us?'' The city has slapped the voters of the city in the face time and time again and berated their own constituents in plain public view. I have seen this. I know!
They have utter disdain for you folks and your past would indicate that the majority of city residents would prefer to go to the O-Bar, V.I.P., Damon?’s and just plain forget about city council. Continued?…

The BIG One pt. 3

But after all of this and after city hall's lengthy assault on Pickerington's own population and their democratic right, city voters still get the chance to make a change. You have got to love America Pickerington city residents! Even though the city has trampled on your rights as American citizens, you still have power over them. City council knows this so as a scrap of rotten meat thrown to an abused dog, they publish the ''Pickerington Communicator''. I'm still a little baffled as to why I received one of these. I am not a city resident. The most recent publication contains a few hidden chuckles and blatant inconsistencies, though.

First Craig Maxey: ''I believe it is important we continue to annex to U.S. Route 33 to create an industrial and commercial park that will benefit our entire community.'' What is so funny (or not so funny) about Craig?’s statement is that city council had a perfect opportunity to set the stage for their ?“industrial and commercial park?” when they annexed the Diley property. Nope, you won't find any commercial or industrial complex on this site that is less than 1 mile from SR33. But you will find houses galore, albeit ina few short years. In fact, houses approved as R-4. 2.6 or 2.7 homes per acre! How's that for deceit?

Next we have Bill Wright (appointee). Bill says, '' The city... is currently moving toward U.S. Route 33, the absolute best site for a light industrial park.'' If the
site is ''the best,'' why did you tell us common folk that the Diley property was ?“not conducive?” to commercial/industrial development and then rammed R-4 zoning down our throats... as an emergency!?!? This council speaks a twisted truth. The write-up then contradict itself when it says Bill is ?“working very hard to protect the Pickerington Ponds?” and then goes on to say that Bill worked with Homewood to help them get homes ''built near the Ponds.'' He's protecting the Ponds by putting homes near the Ponds? No wonder they had to appoint this guy! Doug Parker? Another appointee and another unqualified candidate. Can you really trust the mayor and other councilmen at city hall to appoint someone who will represent your interests, when they don?’t even represent your interests?

I am real curious to see if city voters have enough common sense to ''throw the bums out!'' If I were a wagering man I would say no. But many of you already know of my lack of faith in city residents and their ability to maintain awareness for their environment. I have very little faith in the city resident's ability to get off of their couches and go to the voting booths. P.A.T.A. is going to find itself in an interesting
position if all is lost this Tuesday. I wait in anticipation at Tuesday?’s results!

Question: How do you help those who do not want to be helped? Answer: You
don't. But you do recognize the fact that they do not want to be helped
and squash them underfoot!

The Big One... pt. 4 (whew!)

If all is lost Wednesday, I recommend P.A.T.A. and the unincorporated Violet Township residents (u.v.t.r.) insist that their trustees immediately pursue a C.E.D.A. for the as much land as legally possible nearest SR33 with the city of Canal Winchester, Groveport, or whoever will sign on the dotted line. Pickerington cannot be trusted and they deserve to be left out. We know it is Pickerington's desire to get to SR 33 so let's do whatever it takes, at all cost, using all of our power to thwart their attempt at it! We have the votes, PLSD will still get every dime they have coming to them and Pickerington will get ZERO, or more correctly, everything they deserve!

Is it coincidence that Fairfield County is not going to release the new property tax figures until well after the election? Wouldn't a few more of the ''lobotomized masses'' take notice if they were to have received their 2002 tax bill, the one that is going to include a big portion of the $77.4M school bill, if these numbers were released sooner? We won't get the chance to find out. New figures won't be out until Dec. In the mean time, this community really needs to think about the taxes they are already paying and ask themselves if this is enough, can they endure more
and, if so, how much more? Can we tax ourselves out of marketability? Can we get a part-time job? Can we cut back the family budget? Do I
''bail out'' of this community now, or wait and see what happens? I suppose we'll all be asking ourselves one or more of these questions in Dec. and beyond.

Finally, I would like to say that Mr. Harry Meyers, by the fact that Lyle Diley is endorsing him, is going to be the same kind of trustee that Lyle is or was. Lyle believed that a large property owner has more rights than lil' ole' you or me. Lyle, being from a large land-owning family, feels that he and his family deserve to trample on majority rights. The majority means nothing. Suppose a decision must be made to rezone land and you have an owner of 100 - 200 acre property and you also have 100 - 200 1-acre property owners, Mr. Diley would support the large landowner. Never mind that the majority of property owners in the community did not want condos or a gas station on that land or the traffic that goes with it. It stands to reason that Mr. Meyers would be the same. If you believe a large landowner has more rights than the majority of property owners (albeit smaller properties), then vote for Harry Meyers because he
is your man. Otherwise, you'd better go with he other guy...
