Mr. Berry is marketing his land next to the new police station stating it has R-10 zoning for apartments, Please see the PATA newsletter for copies of the advertisements for the land. Informed sources also state he will seek this R-10 zoning on the land near the High School that he is attempting to purchase from the Church organization who now owns Spring Creek.
I remember Mr. Yocum speaking at the Columbus development Commission about high density zoning for apartments farther West on Refugee, opposing it because of the impact on the schools of such a small amount of acreage creating so many residences. Other city residents voiced complaints about the traffic such apartments would bring. Well, where is Mr. Yocum on this issue now.... and since this development is in the city should that make it OK with school officials?
I also remeber that one of the chief points in Pickerington's opposition to the Apartments in the CEDA was the fact that the city would have to deal with the traffic and other less desirable impacts from such high density housing. In fact the Citizens for a Strong Violet Township/Pickerington STVP made this one of their chief complaints about the CEDA with Mrs. Carlier still headlining on this fact yet this past week on these pages. It seems as though those impacts are OK with STVP and the city officials as long as Mr. Berry is marketing the land for such and will profit from them. In fact, we can just bring the traffic problems right up close to SR 256 near the new police station not closer to SR 33. And Heck.... those trouble making Township residents won't mind if we Clog Refugee out by the High School with the traffic also, never mind that the amount of taxes these residents will pay will not even cover the impact they create, if Mr. Berry wants it, it is OK with us. He can even advertise a ''rare'' zoning of R-10 in his real estate ad seeking the sale of the land for 2.5 million dollars because he is sure the rubber stamp city council will zone it to his wishes....and any other developer who cares to join his parade.
Fortunately, One of Mr. Berry's chief operatives, Mr. Maxey, got bounced from Council Tuesday, and Mr. Parker, number two operative, was not far above him on vote count. It seems city residents are tuning in to this station and do not like what they hear. Unfortunately, it will be business as usual with the rest of the group with David Shaver the lone voice in the wind. At least maybe the press will pick up on what is going on if alternative views are expressed in an official manner during council meetings. Maybe Brian Fox will even wake- up and rejoing the chorus since he will not be the only questioner in the room.
Meanwhile, wealthy individuals and developers will continue to run this town. Good Luck David and thank you for having the courage to run and deal with this group.
