Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

27-1 versus 3-1

Posted in: PATA
I read in today's Columbus Dispatch that the City of Pickerington has a 3 to 1 residential-commercial ratio and Violet Township has a 27 to 1 ratio.

I also noticed that in terms of housing density that City of Pickerington has 2.8 versus a 2.4 in Violet Township.

Is PATA working with our Violet Township Trustees to lower the housing density to below 2 and encourage commercial development? What are PATA goals and plans to do so?

Find out the truth

I am not trying to be a smart aleck here, but Mark can you tell us what the commercial development is? The city officials call a lot of things commercial, like apartments. If you can please sort through the 'real' commercial (light industry, etc.) vs. the 'perceived' commercial (apartments, strip plazas employing less that 10-20) you would help to validate the case you are trying to make.

Thanks

Commercial Property Definitions

Anonymous,

The Pickerington Local School District Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer presented at a public meeting commercial sources of revenue for PLSD from both the City of Pickerington and Violet Township. City and Township officials were present at that meeting in late June.

Apartments are not considered commercial according to standards used by school districts statewide. Manufacturing and other industrial properties are seperate from commercial properties.

Many were surprised by how much commercial development comes from the City versus Township.

Jeff Fix, former PATA Newsletter Editor, was at that meeting. If you would like a copy of the handouts please feel free to contact him. Of course, you are always welcomed to let me know your e-mail address and I will e-mail you a copy.
Clarification

Sir,

Actually I was asking if you could get the information from Mayor Hughes, since he is the one quoted in the paper outlining the numbers you quote in this forum. Sorry for the confusion. I was not interested in what the PLSD classifies as commerical or residential.

thanks for your anticipated answer.
