Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Who's IN Who's OUT?

You said the magic word for me. Community. Isn?’t everyone in this area part of our community? If you take the children that come from the outside off the soccer field, who will you grandchildren play against? Tell me your solution to the dilemma you describe. Do you propose we just annex all of Violet Township in one fell swoop? Or do you prefer armed guards and security checkpoints to insure that those dogs who don?’t have to pay taxes never enter our hallowed Pickerington-only areas? If you describe a problem, please be prepared to offer a suggestion to correct it.

When you refer to the Hill Road project, I assume you mean the strip between the tracks and Mr. Berry?’s offices. Why didn?’t they do the stretch from the intersection to the part they did before? Also, why did they actually seem to make the roads narrower? What is the vehicle that travels the intersection the most during the day? That?’s right, school buses. I hope your grandchildren and my children aren?’t on one of those buses when they try to negotiate the turn that is way too small and get into an accident. I?’m sorry. I think it looks OK, but I cannot for the life of me believe that this construction was a priority before numerous other community improvements.

Mr. Nugent, you have some real heart and that is what this community needs. I just hope you have your heart in the right place.

Time to Run

Maverick: you don?’t seem to be in favor of anything. How do you think all these people got elected? It appears you are in the minority. Have you ever heard of the Silent Majority? We have them right here in Pickerington. You seem to be able to find something wrong with every issue that I bring up. Yet you keep asking me for solutions. Remember I am the one that is happy with the way things are going.

Tell me a better way!

You don?’t want to raise taxes but complain about services (parks and facilities). You complain about the Hill Road North yet what should be done? What roads do you propose? How would you pay for them? Should the Downtown Pickerington bypass be connected to East Columbus? Would that help those inexperienced school bus drivers that can?’t make the turn at the old four way stop? How in the world did they make the turn before they put the sidewalk in? As I remember there was a small knee high wall around that turn.

If you are so concerned about these issues then try them out on the voters. Run for office. If you can convince others of your position you may get elected. To hear to you talk they are all idiots down at City Hall anyway. Maybe you are afraid that I might criticize you in a couple of years if you do get elected. Can you take the HEAT?

Hey! It's been fun.

Mr. Nugent,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I am in favor of a lot of things. Obviously they are things you are not. As to finding something wrong with every issue you bring up, well, I just happened to be able to. But I?’ll happily let this drop here. You don?’t seem to want to talk about issues but would rather get personal.

No, I haven?’t heard of the Silent Majority. Sorry, I am no politician. I wasn?’t complaining about Hill Road north, just making an observation. Should the bypass be connected? Absolutely! I think that is important to growth towards the east. I don?’t have to speak to the bus driver issue. There are other readers of this forum who are experts on the subject and I?’ll let them speak to that issue if they care to.

As to trying issues out on voters, were you involved in the past election? What issues were tried out then? Nothing new. Just the same old same old which is what we get from the same old same old people running the City. They are not all idiots at City hall and I don?’t recall saying that. Some of them are very smart people. Just a little misguided and badly advised.

If someone like me ever ran for office, I guess I would have to expect criticism and HEAT from people like you. Else things might get boring.

It?’s been nice talking to you. If you care to discuss ISSUES further let me know.

Mr. Nugent is right

Maverick:

Hey, let's not get personal! Are you joking?

Mr. Nugent is right. If you really think criticizing the leadership at City Hall is all you need to do to effect change, then you have a lot to learn about life, not just politics.

The annexation policy is NOT what is hurting the schools. Student population comes from all parts of the community, and whether or not it is annexed has no bearing on the number of students attending the school system. Most of the kids come from OUTSIDE the City limits. Are you saying that if a piece of property is annexed into the City from the Township that it will hurt the schools?

Those same kids will attend Pickerington schools whether or not they live in the City or the Township. They are all attending the Pickerington Local School District.

Why don't you attack the Township government leaders and ask them not to build any more homes? You really should be more worried about Township development, anyway. I live in the Township, and I see lots of houses going up in the unincorporated areas, which is significantly more square miles in size than the City.
