Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Just say NO!

Posted in: PATA
Well, it?’s finally Friday and I get to sit down and drink beer and stay up as late as I want. Nothing will disturb that until late tomorrow morning when I wake up with a hangover. However there is one pressing item on my agenda. I work all week and pay my taxes. My living expenses continue to go up and most of all my taxes continue to increase each year without any improvement with the services my family and I receive. The kids are lost in a sea of other children at school. They attend crowded classrooms. The only thing on the school?’s mind is to do well on the proficiency tests. Last year we passed a $77,000,000 levy to build a new high school. Last year we also passed a 3 mil levy to increase the operating money for the school. It all went for the teacher?’s raises and to hire all these new teachers that they had to be hired because of all the new students. We can?’t gain for losing. Next Tuesday they want me to go into work late and vote for a renewal levy to continue the current school funding.

I am voting NO. Let me repeat, I am voting NO. Even though I have three kids in the school system.

There are members of the school board that must resign before I will ever vote for another school levy. Larry Sigman aligned himself with the Pickerington City Council members and with full knowledge that they were planning to develop an industrial park in the Canal Winchester School District at this School district?’s expense. Since 1997 when he signed on with them our commercial tax base for the school has dropped like a rock. Larry is silent now but you should have heard him this time last year helping his buddy Daryl out by joining the dirty dozen.

The second school board member that must resign before they get my vote is Lori Sanders. She and Debbie Carlier worked to give away millions of school dollars in the form of TIFs just to help the Pickerington City Council incumbents get re-elected. Please note that she was, ?“Instrumental in getting the Windmiller Ponds and the 204 TIFs approved according to Douglas Parker Pickerington City Councilman.?” We all know how we feel about Doug Parker. By the way Doug has no children that lived.

Now these two board members are asking that we bail them out of their mistake and their generosity to the City. They have lied to us all. The reason they supported the city council was simply a political back scratching. Lori and Larry wanted to get the Cell Tower approved for their ATHLETIC BOOSTERS so they could receive a few thousand dollars each year from AT&T.

If the renewal levy fails on Tuesday then PLSD will be very close to being in financial watch. They will not have the funds to complete this school year.

No matter want you may think is right you will be wrong. If you vote for this levy renewal they will be asking for more money this fall to open the new High School. They will also be asking for more money to build two new elementary schools. The competition for your tax dollars will never end. Some where along the line we must tell we are tapped out. I think Tuesday would be a good time to tell them that.

no more for four

Too poor to vote for issue four. Let the rich people in Summerfield pay for the schools they are the ones running the show.
I'm Voting Yes.......

The people that are responsible for the badly needed schools work on Lockville Road & live in many other areas in the Pickerington Area besides Summerfield.

It's unfortunate that our children have to live with the results of poor planning by the adults in the area. Voting ''NO'' sends a message - but it's one our kids have to live with & I wonder if that's the most effective means of driving change?

I'm supporting the School Levy & believe we need more City Council members willing to do the hard work to PLAN a wholistic community not just subdivisions, condo's, apartments & drug stores.

If your not satisfied with the needs of our schools - work toward positive change - come to a city council meeting & ask Randy why if Pickerington has ''$3 of commercial development for every $1 of residential development'' - one of his favorite quotes, is that not reflective in the tax dollars collected each year?

David Shaver needs some company on the Council !! Any takers ???
Political sandbox

We should not hurt our kids by gutting the school budget with a ''no'' vote because the adults do not get along in the political sandbox. We should all endevour to set a good example for our children, especially those in elected positions. Current grade, D-. We should all strive to make a difference in the situation, no matter how small a difference we can make.

When a pebble is dropped in the pond, the ripples it creates go on for a long time and for a great distance. Each of you has a pebble or two to drop. I we all do a little, the collective consciousness of the community will change and things will get better. You must remain persistant and determined. Change has happened and will continue if you do.
