Proposed Legislation

Posted in: PATA
Dear Fellow Citizens:

All of us should be more positive in our approach to the problems with this city. I suggest that this round of questions become a forum for new proposed legislation. I will give an example:

By John Adams
Ordinance restricting housing pe

That the city enact an ordinance limiting the number of new housing permits issued to one hundred each year with no more than ten being alloted to any one development.

By the way, the use of pseudonyms is a long established political tradition, particularly when there is fear of reprisal by a hostile government or party.

I also suggest that we write these up and see if we can present them to council.

Ordinace restricting campaigns

How about an ordinance stating that the city cannot spend any money on advocacy of any political issue or candidate.

Candidates Campaign Contributors

You want teeth, get to the money behind the toddies. Enough of Ordinances and Resolutions, they can just repeal and ignore them. Make a Charter Amendment change to force disclosure of Candidates finances BEFORE THE ELECTION.

Limit contributors to only $100.00 each. Require each contributor to disclose their occupation and place of employment and limit each employment firm to no more than $200.00.

Candidates must file pre-election disclosure in a Charter stated local weekly newspaper one-week before the election. Failure to do so means disqualification of the candidate from the election. Failure to abide by the rules for the contributors means FIFTH DEGREE FELONY charges.

Let the public have the knowledge to see who is backing whom. The voters deserve the facts before they go to the polls.
