Dear friends and neighbors,
As one member of the Board of Education, I apologize for the recent sign blight perpetrated on this community in the name of the PLSD. Like you, I find this an embarassment.
I have learned that the levy committee bought 2,500 signs, which to say the least is a wanton waste. I was elected to the School Board with only 250 yard signs, half of which disappeared, and a total campaign budget of $1,200. I spent my campaign going door to door talking to voters, which is what the levy committee should do. I hate to think what the levy committee must have spent on this campaign. It pains me to think of PTO funds being misspent in this manner.
I do not know who the levy committee believes they will impress with this stuff. This is why, as I have said before, I stay as far away from that committee as I can. They tend to get just a bit too carried away with their slogans.
I am concerned that many voters may base their decision for or against the levy on the surplus signage, and not on the merits of the issue. For all of the reasons that I have set forth in my previous postings here, I still plan to vote for the levy. I hope that you will as well, even if we all have to hold our noses a bit on this one.
If I have my way (although, as you know, I seldom do), none of this stuff will ever happen again.
Very truly yours,
By Bruce Rigelman
