Council Meeting 10/15

Posted in: PATA
Come tonight if you can

The City Council seems to react to large numbers of people - tell them that a growth plan is important to this community !!!

The 5 Referendum Petitions were filed today with Linda Fersch. Thank you to everyone that helped us in this endeavor.

If you did not get an opportunity to sign & want to show your support - PLEASE come to tonight's meeting.

7:30pm 100 Lockville Rd across from Victory Park. Walk through the front door & look for the BIG Crowd !!!
update...

It appears city council is trying to wear down their opponent.

Armchair activists, who shout (write) commands from the comfort of their own computer chairs without ever attending one single meeting, you need to become activated! You can?’t claim to be active from the confines of your warm cozy homes.

I realize there were some folks who normally attend these meetings and who were committed elsewhere. But can we get more support from some folks who?’ve never been next time? The momentum and attendance need to build considerably for the next council meeting.

City Council tabled ord. 2002-126 once again to try and wear these concerned citizens down. Dick Brahm was there taking notes on how to respond to some of the speakers when he gets his private meeting with city hall officials at a later date. We need more city residents speaking about the traffic and schools.

Just for the record, city council publicly recognized that their highly touted SR256 expansion, from two lanes to five and just completed in 1996, is now beyond capacity!!! Although the mayor BLAMED (there?’s that word again) violet township and Columbus for the problem. They understand that it?’s tough getting around on SR256. Well thank you city council !!!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery!!!

Mr. Shaver asked what, if any, contribution city council is getting from the businesses which benefit the most for the traffic light that goes in across Advance Auto. The city manager?’s answer: I don?’t have the figures for that right now. Well, what about a wild guess? City manager: I have no idea how much, but we are going to receive a ?“contribution?”.

That?’s just it isn?’t it? Everyone?’s voting for these backroom ?“deals?”, but no one has any idea what it is costing the community, short or long term. If David Shaver weren?’t there, the question would have never come up! They are spending money like crazy and no one wants to ask any questions! The city manager is entering into all of these contracts and prices are never mentioned! Who manages a business like this? There's no accountability !!!

I?’ve got to admit I was a little perplexed by the city resident who stated she signed the petition for the referendums, but said the city?’s businesses will benefit from more residents. What? That?’s like saying: I know you?’re dying of lung cancer, but keep smoking cigarettes because there?’s oxygen mixed in with all that smoke and your lungs benefit from that oxygen. Either way, we?’re being systematically choked to death.
What do you expect?

Dear Anonymous,

You are very perceptive in your analysis of Council. They know that sooner or later people will stop coming to the meetings. That?’s when they can act. You didn?’t tell us how many citizens showed up. They have a number in mind that as soon as the attendance reaches that limit, they will act swiftly to screw us over.

I would love to hear puppet Randy?’s logic behind blaming Columbus and Violet Township for the 256 dilemma. That should be a hoot. I wonder if Randy and the amazing others have a clue as to what it will take to resolve that situation? Don?’t you love it when someone comes whining to you about a problem with no solution to offer? OK Rowdy Randall, what do you propose to do to either increase the capacity of 256 or reduce the traffic? What?’s that? Dead silence? About what I expected.

Everyone needs to understand that all but one elected official and all of the hired guns can?’t think for themselves. They have to have a thought handed to them so it can come out of their mouth. Think of one who they get their thoughts from. Do you think that the young Mister Rapes sat there in the first quarter class at the Dr. Nick school for Bitchin?’ Barristers Dude on the second floor over the Quick-E-Mart and said ?“Dude, when I get outta here I want to stand at F. Lee Bailey?’s side and defend the stars of Hollywood!?”? Heck no, he said ?“Ummmmm, when I, when I, ummm when I grad graduate, I?’m umm going to become the umm City Law Dictator for an upcoming midwest ummmm city where I can earn at least umm half of what a talented lawyer makes. But at least I can give them bad advice. WHAT A DEAL DUDE!?”

I was there

I haven't been to a council meeting in awhile, but I did go last night. I thought it was well attended, with people standing in the lobby as all the chairs were taken.

David Shaver did a good thing by getting Mapes to agree that a moratorium on new builds was legal, if it were tied to a growth plan review. David proposed that the growth summit talks, between the city, township, and schoolboard, proposed by Bill Wright, be used as a basis for validating the moratorium. Now it's in Bill's court to set up the meetings.

While Mayor Hughes did attribute much of the traffic on 256 to other than city of Pick residents, doesn't he realize that we ''outsiders'' using his roads may in fact be putting dollars into Pickerington's economy as we are patrons of the stores, Doctors, Dentists, etc. that lie within city limits?

I had to chuckle when Joyce Bushman was questioned by David Shaver regarding the new light on 256 that will service the autoparts store/Dr.'s office and the new condo development. I recall that the light was promised as a condition of the annexation of the medical complex and others (and that the medical complex did not want to be annexed!). I wonder if there truly is any donation by the businesses towards that light or if it is really just another give-away by the city in return for annexation.

As to the citizen that was concerned about the city getting sued and the Mayors response that the city will be sued and will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal expenses - how about the $145,000 donation paid to fight the new annexation law? They didn't flinch at spending that sum for that ''worthy'' cause.

Mayor Hughes asked the audience to refrain from applauding as ''this is not a TV show.'' He's wrong. It truly is a comedy.
