Community without a voice

Posted in: PATA

In the days to come this community will have the opportunity to read about some of the very interesting ploys played upon it by the City Council at last nights meeting.

The Ohio Constitution required this Council to pass a measure to put the second efforts relative to a charter change on the usage of Emergency legislation on the ballot. The second Emergency legislation issue was moved for consideration by Mr. Shaver and died for lack of a second at last nights Council meeting.

The earlier version of Charter change, which was altered into the form of a City Council ordinance, was passed on to the board of elections with a 7-0 vote. This earlier version has much less restrictions than the follow up measure. Because of the delays, it was passed by ?“Emergency?”. However, the Honorable Mayor repeatedly mentioned his intent not to sign this ordinance or to veto the measure. In so doing these forms of delay would result in this weaker Emergency charter change not reach the voters this November.

Now you might be thinking that there is no recourse. That is understandable given the press releases and media manipulation that has been a stable of public information here for some time. This is similar to the ploys that the citizens of Plain City, Ohio faced and overcame through the legal actions of mandamus. With the support of a very competent attorney a ruling of the Ohio Supreme Court required that community?’s decisions of the will of the people to be determined at the ballot not in council chambers.

So, will we become a community without a voice or will there be support for a similar action here?
