Happy Holidays

I see you guys have been working overtime to get Hackworth appointed to council. Do any of you really think your efforts are going to amount to a hill of beans? Lou Postage runs this town and has run it for a very long time. He has deep ties into the school system and the athletic boosters. Do any of you really believe Lou is about to retire?

If Lou can?’t pay his taxes then he is not ready to leave office. He needs to make more money. If I were a betting man I would say he is going to get his partner Dave England who lost a re-election bid to none other than Linda Wilson. Ohhh! What happened to Linda Wilson. Why they recalled her butt because she directed a city employee to open a door at city hall because she thought someone was ill behind that door. Linda fought her recall also but the city voters had voted her off council. Wasn?’t there a local developer paying for the signatures of this recall? Didn?’t it cost him about $17,000 for that recall?

Now let?’s see, that was in 1995. Was Brian Fox on Council? Was Randy Hughes on council? Was Lou Postage on council? Was William Wright on council? Was John Washington on council? Did they defend Mrs. Wilson in any way? What about Maxey? For extra credit who was appointed into Linda Wilson?’s council seat?

Now we have Hackworth, O?’Brien, Diane Shankland, and Pat Shaver all applying for the open council seat. I understand two more people may apply by week?’s end. So we have on their side Sabatino, Farrell, Chris Smith, and of course old Jack Bowman. Have we heard from Lee Gray and Dave England yet?

The only way you get their butts off council is to recall them. Marty made some great points in his letter to Postage. Does it apply to all or most of those on council? It sure does.

Now stop to think who is on the rules committee, Maxey, Fox and Parker. Who they going pick? It ain?’t going be Hackworth or O?’Brien or Pat Shaver or Diane Shankland or maybe any of those that might apply between now and Friday. They have already had their rules committee meeting on Monday Dec. 2nd. They will need to hold a second meeting this month if they don?’t want the Mayor to select the candidate. So sometime next week they need to have another special Rules Committee meeting and we should all be there to help them select one of their cronies.

So keep December 9th thru December 13th open, which is Friday the 13th, which I predict will be the day they hold that special Rules Committee to select Monebrake?’s replacement meeting so they can prevail at the council because they didn?’t prevail at the ballot box.

Why not??

Why not O'Brien? He has been quiet through all of this. What does he have to say? He was a candidate for the Maxey seat and was mentioned several times after the Maxey reappointment debacle by Councilman Shaver who sat in on the interviews as being one of the best qualified for the position.. He has spoken before Council and had some pretty good things to say. He has spoken before the School Board and had some pretty good things to say. You?’ve probably read some of the letters he has written to the editors of the local publications. He was Treasurer for the Committee for Citizens?’ Rights for Issues 17, 18 and 19 so his efforts go beyond having good things to say. He put them into action.

He has proven that he is electable, if that is a word. He successfully defeated an incumbent and sitting elected official in the elections in May. He was a volunteer for the Violet Festival. He is a volunteer for the Fairfield County Hospice. I think this demonstrates some sort of civic-mindedness. I think all of this represents dedication to the community. He is already a civil servant of the Federal Government and willing to be a civil servant to the people of this community, so again I ask, why not O?’Brien?

Remember, there are two seats to be filled on City Council. It sounds to me like you are all putting your eggs in one basket and supporting just one candidate for one of the seats. I too support Ted Hackworth. He is a good moral and ethical man and has worked hard to support the community. There are two seats. Please consider directing some of your efforts towards supporting someone for the other seat, too.

Respectfully,
Pickerington Voter.
