The Columbus Dispatch reports today that Robert Mapes the Law Director for Pickerington, has hired his $200 per hours attorney, Donald McTigue, to find a way to block 4 out of the 5 Referendums that were submitted to the City Auditor last month. He claims this is a matter of Law.
This must be an attorney?’s dream job, being Law Director of Pickerington. First there is plenty of work and what you don?’t know you just call in an outside attorney to do the research for you. You are protecting the butts of some very puppet like councilmen that haven?’t said boo in days now and they need all the protecting they can get. I would imagine it to be a lawyer?’s dream assignment to argue a case with public money and the opposition must fund their attorney with private donations. He can come up with yes and no answers and keep the wolves away from the councilmen he is trying to protect.
Now he claims these recent petitioners must give him the case law and the sections of the Ohio Revised Code that he must act upon. Not only does he find a lawyer to give the city an opinion in favor of the council but then tells the citizens that they must fight their own tax dollars in court. I would imagine we are every close to asking for an increase in the City Income tax to help with the expenses of these law suits and the hiring these outside attorneys. Remember that filing these petitions Mapes is going up against regular citizens. What happens when he gets into court and he opposes another REAL attorney? He will hire more attorneys. Who approves both the policies of the Law Director and his budget? It is the council. So much of the rage the voters have now is directed toward Robert Mapes. However he is only doing what his client is asking him to do and his client if 6 of the council members.
