Whoa - Back the truck up!

Ms. Reade,

I can tell you for a fact that there have been other people speak up expressing their desire to serve the citizens of this community and I?’ll bet that you even know a couple of them. I just don?’t think they are getting the same amount of press that Mr. Hackworth, for example is getting. I can think of no better candidate for one of the seats at this time than Mr. Hackworth. I can, however, think of candidates who have made their name known that are AS good a choice as he is.

Not everyone that is a good candidate for office reads this site or posts to it.

Supporting viable candidates

I'm not saying that there aren't other candidates for Council out there - I believe there are. I also don't think you need to post here to be qualified for a seat on Council. But as these will be Council appointed seats, I believe that there will need to be a lot of visible community support for the candidates that do get appointed if they are truly going to represent slowed residential growth. In this case, merely applying for the position may not be enough. How can the community help these people ? Candidates can be supported via a letter writing campaign to the papers or to Council, but if their names are not out in front of the community asking for support how can that happen ??

More people who CARE

Ms. Reade, It is my understanding that the 17 candidates who applied last time for the Washington seat were sent letters asking them if they were still interested. So in addition to he people who made their intentions known here, there are still 16 other people in the running. Since that information (the candidate list) is public information, perhaps someone visiting this forum has the list and can post it and we can rate and endorse some from there. Some of these people might just need a little prodding to get them to speak up. Also, are you aware of any female candidates? There?’s another way to break up the good ol?’ BOYS club.

Female Candidates

I don't have the full list from last fall but do know that Pat Shaver applied.

I also know of one other woman that is considering applying. I feel like the candidates needs to put their names out first prior to ''rating'' them. Pat since she had applied is part of the public record.
