Don't cut Nose to Spite Face

Thank you sir

Thanks violetmom and thank you, too, Dr. Rigelman. I am proud of you for actually taking action whenever you can and not just supplying us with your words. Also, I appreciate your frequent communication on issues while many of your counterparts remain mute.

I agree completely with what violetmom says. No offense to my nose, but I just cannot afford to give what you are asking for. Without wasting readers?’ time restating what violetmom said, please allow me to just ask one other thing.

Why do we have to be threatened with the extracurricular activities? First, they are all cancelled for next year. Then we are told that even if the levy passes, the extras are still cancelled. Then, one of the Board Members says that passing the levy will bring back a portion of them. (Who gets to pick is an interesting dilemma but I?’ll save that for another posting.)

What is the straight story? If I find that I am financially able to support a levy I need to know with all certainty that my kid?’s education will come first. I am certain that they will not have a secure future via Pickerington Athletics, Band or Performing Arts. Educational opportunities and hard work are the keys to their future. Not the others.

Please give us the straight story on how passing a levy will impact the on again, off again extracurricular activities in PLSD.

Thank you!

YES--BUT

BRUCE,
I AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE RECALL,IT HAS TO HAPPEN IN ORDER FOR THINGS TO CHANGE--WE CAN NOT GIVE THESE CURRENT COUNCIL MEMBERS ANOTHER 8 MONTHS TO DESTROY OUR CITY AND SCHOOL. I DO QUESTION THE ADDITIONAL 25K (I THINK) THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT WAS GIVEN, AND THEN I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT HE IS DUE ANOTHER RAISE SOON. THE TEACHERS DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY THE WAY IT IS, ONE MONEY SAVER WOULD BE TO GO BACK TO IN HOUSE BUS DRIVERS ILO CONTRACTING OUT. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE I TO WILL CARRY PETITONS ETC. TO GET THOSE PEOPLE OUT. I DO HOPE THE NEW COUNCIL LADY WILL BE MORE ALERT TO THE OTHER COUNCIL MEMBERS CONDUCT. IF SHE IS A PERSONNEL TYPE FOR THE STATE SHE IS AWARE OF THE STANDARDS OF CONDUCT AND EVEN THE APPEARENCE OF IMPROPRIETY THAT ELECTED PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO ADHERE TO.
THANKS,FROM ONE BRUCE

Check this out

Here is what my child relayed to me at the dinner table tonight. When I asked my child why she wore shorts to school today she said it was very hot in her classroom. I said that was strange given all the renovations just done there. I asked if she asked the teacher why it was so hot and the teacher responded that if the levy wasn't passed, it would get a lot hotter in there. The teacher said they could not afford air conditioning this year.

Am I outraged you ask? Damn straight. I know this is not the first time teachers have made sick comments like this to the children. But given the age of these children, outrage is a much calmer term for what I feel. I do know, first hand, the pressures put on the students of a former Mayor to write letters to their parents demanding they support a levy. This age group doesn't even know what the hell a levy is. They just know it is hot in class and the person they trust to guide them and the person we trust to educate them betrays us with political pontifications.

I hope this and all future levies go down in flames. Hey school board - LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS! WE HAVE TO.

Things happen all the time that are out of my control that cause me financial distress. Can I ask my boss for a raise because gas hits $1.75 per gallon? No. I have to make a cut somewhere. Can I ask my boss for a raise if the amazing Mr. Taft raises costs elsewhere in my life? No. I have to make a cut somewhere.

You are no better than me. You need more money? Don't ask your boss. Make a cut somewhere. Cut the damned football games next year. Eliminate the band and their trips. Shut down basketball for a year. Make a cut.

But don't ever send my kids home again with the threat you will sweat them into a stupor with no air conditioning if we don't pass a freaking levy!
