Hard work ahead for 2003

Upper Arlington recall

I see where Upper Arlington is nearly half way to their gols of collecting enough signatures to recall their entire city council. Maybe they will come to Pickerington and do ours next? It seems that is what the citizens of Pickerington are waiting on. Our council is about to appoint a person that opposed the three initiatives last fall. So if you are waiting for them to change they aren't anytime soon. If you are waiting for someone else to do the circulating they won't. It will only change when you get involved.
Huh??

What information do you have that indicates they are about to appoint someone who opposed the initiatives?

Do tell! You seem to have information the rest of us do not have.

Just in time

Too,

Will it make a difference whether I have a source or if I am just speculating? Will it make a difference to the citizens of Pickerington whether this council or now maybe the Mayor will appoint either a pro or con person for limited growth to the vacant council seats?

Does it make a difference that city hall visits this site regularly and knows what all of us are thinking?

So stay tuned for the war that is about to erupt here in good old Pickerington in the coming weeks.

Or else.....

I am sorry that I interpreted your message as you having a source rather than speculation. With the Rules Committee as a source, I can tell you that the facts are:
* They have concluded the interviews.
* They are in the process of making a recommendation to the Mayor to make an appointment, as their 60-day window to take the action themselves is closing due to delays caused by the holidays.
* They expect to have the first reading on the appointment for the next meeting on January 21. Perhaps both appointments.

Now as to speculation:

They have two seats to fill.

The first one is the remainder of Mr. Monebrake?’s term.
* In all likelihood, yes, they will appoint someone sympathetic to their side as this is the longer of the two terms and since this is an election year they need all the allies they can get in their camp to help that cause.

The second seat is that vacated by Mr. Postage. It will be on the ballot this November.
* You can?’t for a minute believe they will appoint one of their own to this seat, can you?
* They know as well as you seem to that if they don?’t offer an olive branch to their opposition, recall will happen swiftly and severely. In order to try to offset this, they have no choice whatsoever but to appoint what they consider to be the most benign of the candidates that appears to be in opposition to them. Someone who won?’t help them much, but certainly someone who can?’t hurt them much either. Don?’t forget that not every candidate for the vacant seats was firmly on either side of the fence. Some of these candidates are real pros at straddling it.
* With less than 11 months to get themselves into a reelectable position, Council has the same amount of time to either make it so that person doesn?’t want to run again, can?’t run again or doesn?’t stand a chance against their political machine.
