A divergent group of community leaders have formed a committee known as CommUNITY First. The goal of this group is to foster communication between members of this community in the hope of identifying the type of community that we would like Pickerington to become and to develop postive plans for implementation of this vision . To achieve these goals, CommUNITY First intends to hold a series of meetings, the first of which will be with the various leaders of the civic associations.
Unfortuantely, we have discovered that it is difficult to find out information about these civic associations. If anyone is a trustee or officer of a civic association, could you please forward an e-mail or street address and telephone number where you can be reached. If any of the readers of this page know the names of the officers or trustees of their civic association, could you also please provide me with this information. My e-mail address is shaverandhoke@prodigy.net. You may also contact Sarah Rose or Lisa Reade.

Secret Meetings
Mr. Shaver
Secret meetings do not ''FOSTER COMMUNICATION'' between members of this commnuity. Open meetings where everyone has a chance to speak no matter whether they are invited or not foster communication. Everyone including those that may offend or even oppose elected leaders are part of the process.
This task force just aint going to get it done. Even the township and the city meeting at the township office February 20th, where the public can't speak only flustrates us all.
Lets put the board and the council and the trustees up on the spot and ask them the tough questions. Maybe there will some mud slinging and maybe there will be some heated comments SO WHAT! That is the process. If we can't speak why should we support your plans? Wes stick your tax levy. You might feel securce by not hearing us but we will speak at the polls.

Participation Counts.......
I attended the joint meeting between the City & the Township this past Saturday & felt overall it was a very big step by both groups & set the stage for a lot of positives to come.
In addition to the 3 reporters from the local papers there was a total of 7 other audience members during the meeting.
People need to quit complaining & step forward to make a difference. I personally think no organized group, elected or otherwise will make everyone happy - it's not possible. What people can do is participate to try to make the community a better place. If you don't like what a group is doing - offer suggestions for improvement. Stating you don't like something, but not suggesting how to improve it is easy. Making suggestions & then offering to help implement them is not as easy, but opens the door for discussion & change.
You will find that many people are open to change when it is discussed in a forum of offering improvement rather than saying, ''I don't like that.'' & not offering what options are acceptable to you.
People in the Pickerington Area need to be part of the Solution - there is a LOT of talent in our neighborhoods. To be successful it needs utilized. The best way to fix a group you aren't happy with is to participate.
Please check out the Calendar section to the left hand side. I hope any concerned citizen will take advantage & come to the CommUNITY 1st meeting this Sunday.
