There are options
I think the Community has options.
First we need to get a Moratorium enacted - this can happen with limiting building permits or sewer taps (if you can't flush them you can't sell them.....)
Secondly, if the Council stalls or is slow to enact this the Citizens could get signatures on an Initiative Petition that effectively does the same thing - no sewer taps for a two year period. This could positively motivate the City Council to pass the Ordinance on their own. This actually just happened in Columbus in the Big Darby Creek area. Given the choice of passing an ordinance which they could change down the road or living with an Initiative Petition that they could only change with another vote - they chose to pass the Ordinance. I believe we could get 600 - 800 signatures in a two to three week period without trying too hard. You would need a group of ~ 40 people that would each need to get signatures of 20 friends, neighbors or Soccer/Sports parents to make it work. Very doable. You could probably set up shop at the next School board Meeting & get what you need in an evening or two......
Thirdly - we need to keep them honest & visable about their comments regarding Impact Fee's - we need to see them slowing growth now. So far the talk has been great but the actions haven't matched. I would love to see a huge turnout at the Service Committee Meeting on Feb 20th. People should be writing to the Council & Mr. Postage letting them know how important it is that they participate in funding.
While Mr. Postage discussed that the City of Pickerington is ~1/3 of the school district they were 70% of the growth that occured last year - building 357 houses (township built ~157 homes). They NEED the people in the Township to help build the necessary schools they are creating the need for with the excessive growth - it effects everyone. We all need to get involved.
