City website b.s.
http://www.ci.pickerington.oh.us/sections/about/info.asp
Growth management issues continue to dominate the public agenda. Elected officials as well as citizens of the area hold strong and varying views regarding housing density, growth of industrial and commercial areas, transportation, residential growth, and provisions of utility services, comprehensive planning, annexation by Pickerington and other cities, and ultimate appropriate area growth.
Nevertheless, progress on growth issues was once again the hallmark of activity in 2002.
Without citizen initiatives you?’d have buried us. And now with your winter 2003 building permit figures out you?’re still trying to bury us.
We need a new ?“Hallmark?” for 2003. Marching your butts out of office the sooner the better!

Community Authority
Here somes some more City Hall B.S.
Lou Postage just annouced in the Columbus Dispatch that they have signed a COmmunity Authority deal with the BIA. Wow, Great, the best thing since sliced bread.
This will not control the number of homes coming in to the Pickerington School district each year.
This money collected from the Real Estate taxes will be controlled by WHOM?
Why should these future residents ever vote to pass another levy since they will already be paying an extra 5 to 6 mils?
Does any of this money fund ANY OPERATING expenses?
They claim they can sell a bond and build schools or what ever. OH!!
Let's see 1000 acres at 2 LOTS per acre (issue 17) that is 2000 homes. .8 students per house works out to OH!! 1600 more students. Let's see that is $12 million per year to educate these children from these 2000 homes. If they are in the 200K range then they will pay regular R.E. taxes of about $2400 per home. That works out to $4.8 million in R.E.taxes from these homes. The people living in these homes will pay income taxes to the school. That may bring in another $1.2 million. So 4.8 million plus 1.2 million that is $6 million. Oh I forgot to factor in the increased property valuation and that lowers the effective milages and we are back to where we started.
THE BASIC FACT IS TOTALY IGNORED HERE IS THAT IF THE LEVY IN MAY FAILS THE SCHOOLS CAN'T CONTINUE OFFERING THE CURRENT LEVEL OF SERVICES. EVEN IF THE LEVY PASSES IT IS ONLY GOOD FOR ONE YEAR AND WE ARE BACK WHERE WE STARTED ONCE AGAIN.
Lou you got stop the building.

As Noted
As noted in prior recent discussions, our council has no intention of supporting the (any) growth moratorium or similar plan. You don't invite the BIA to make their public case, or call the Dispatch and tell them about your wonderful ''Community Authority'', unless you need justification for refusing to act on this issue.
They can now say that a ''significant part'' of the electorate does not support the moratorium (because builders and others spoke up at the recent council meeting) and they can say that their great idea of collecting ''impact fees'' can't function unless they continue to build new homes...CASE CLOSED!
''We're supporting the efforts to slow growth for the sake of the schools, but doing so in a way that strikes a balance with the needs of the business community and our new, innovative, community authority''...if that doesn't already sound familiar, it will soon!
CHANGE THEIR CHOICES! Either recall them, or force a vote on a moratorium initiative via petition. While one of those choices may be more ''satisfying'', the other choice may be more ''pratical''. Let's put emotion (even well justified emotion) aside and act ''practically''.
Support Hackworth's efforts to get the moratorium issue to the voters!
By now also anonymous
