Bravo on Our Pages

Posted in: PATA
Bravo on the newest ?“Our Pages?” addition. Thanks for telling it like it is ?– again! Something I wanted to ask because I don?’t know the legalities behind it. What if this farce was expanded to include adding millage to resales. If someone buys an older house and they are just moving into the community for the first time, why can?’t they be assessed the same fee that new construction is? I would like to see people moving from one house in the city to another house in the city excluded, but what is the difference between someone bringing in 1.5 kids to the schools via an older house versus bringing 1.5 kids into the schools via a new house?

This is not a tax

This is not a tax. It is an assessment. It is a bill leveied against a certain property and it is a private contract. Your suggestion would require the city or the school to levy such a charge and they legally can't do that.

The real answer to our problem here locally is to control the rate of residential growth. Also improve on the amount of commerical property. Make the tax base stronger. There are communities here in Ohio that have done that even when they got as low as Pickerington.
