WOW! What a tangle of opinions. How about one from outside the establishment...
First, a little math:
Take the total Pickerington population. Subtract the 15% or so that are contractors, developers, or local businessowners. Further subtract all of those who think that the first priority of the school district is to provide them an opportunity to feel young via their interaction with high school sports. That leaves the 80% or so of the rest of us....for purposes of discussion, let's just call us the ''majority''.
As I read over this mess of accusations of who did what bad thing in the past, what still seems to be missing is the same thing that's missing at most city council meetings...any substantive plan for how we'll afford to move forward. (throwing more money at a problem is only a plan if you have more money to throw)
To have a plan that helps move us out of this difficult situation will require honest reflection, tough choices, and compromise...for purposes of discussion, lets just call that ''leadership''.
I would say that the ''majority'' deserves some ''leadership'', and that I don't see any of that from the current schoolboard, the athletic boosters, or anyone else in a position to make a difference.
Ever have a friend with substance abuse problems? Only an intervention can really help. Do they usually ''thank'' you for stepping in to help them face their problems? No way, at least not at the time when they think just one more drink (or one more school levy) will solve all their problems.
It's time for an intervention, and then some leadership. I hope getting our administration ''clean'' doesn't hurt my kids too much...they're among the few that aren't to blame.
The intervention starts Wednesday.
